Nato Hitch Adaption
Hi all,
I'm new here so first post, thanks for having me. I've just had my beloved Defender written off whilst it was parked outside my hosue and what with a blossoming family I've decided a little more comfort and safety is in order so I've decided to opt for a D3 as a replacement.
However, my other half and myself travel to almost all of the LR shows across the UK with Defender and converted Sankey trailer, which some of you may have seen about, the pair used to stand out really well. Defender was a lovely shade of Rioja Red.
I need to figure out a way to get the Nato hitch on the back of the Disco. Now I've already looked around and seen loads of posts on here where members are asking 'how to get the NATO hitch onto the back of the Disco' or 'is it worth converting the sankey to a ball hitch'. But what if we just combined the ball hitch with the pintle. So no mods required.
I saw this on a truck that setup next to us this year at the Classic LR Show at Gaydon. Has anyone else considered such an application and if so what are your thoughts. Also need to find someone that could make it for me. Again, any thoughts on a company I may be able to appraoch would be helpful.
Thanks in adavnce all.
Marc
BTW: mods if you think this might be better placed in another area of the forum please feel free to move it to where it might get most exposure. Thanks again.

Another option would be to contact Iguana on here. He has/had a similar adapter/hitch arrangement as I just posted and am not sure if he still uses it??? Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Thanks all.
Tried Ray @ RLD already. Great idea but far too expensive for my pockets for what I want but also be interested to know for those of you that have one how does your Sankey (assuming drum braked) Widetrack sit on the back of the disco. Is it level or as I would imagine slighntly nose forward?
Bear in mind the drum braked widetrack sits slightly higher than the disc braked versions becaise the pintle is above the a-frame and not insiude it.

Sorry all my kit went with the Sankey when I sold it
+1 for Ray though, there's also a south African built option but need to search a bit to find links

As a comparison.. the normal tow ball on a discovery ( fixed and swan neck ) is about 9 inches lower than were the nato hitch needs to be
Emergency adapter .. you can see the drop needed to keep trailer straight and level

Iguana that Sankey is same as mine with pintel on top. I’d be interested to see how level your trailer sits with that setup.
Wiggs why do you consider it an emergency device, out of interest? With pintel on top then I expect the drop would be approx 11-12 inches.

After breaking down in Scotland , landrover could only supply a vehicle with a standard tow ball .
Obviously no good when you have a trailer with a nato ringG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Ahh now that makes sense
What did you make it with. Just a standard ball hitch and some box section is it?
