Motoreasy Warranty Claim

Hi everyone
For anyone who’s contemplating getting a Motoreasy warranty on their Land Rovers thought I’d just share how my first claim has gone on my policy!

After buying my 2012 Discovery back in August I purchased a Motoreasy Warranty which wasn’t cheap at £1800 but that included 2 and half years cover, betterment clause removed, £50 excess, zero parts contribution and a few mot and service in the 2nd year.

Today I’ve just completed my first claim which has gone surprising well and quite smoothly after calling Motoreasy to tell them I had a power steering fault they booked it into a local 4x4 specialist garage which diagnosed it as a worn UJ on the steering column, at this point motoreasy rang me to say that the UJ wasn’t covered specifically within my warranty but they would pay and cover the item anyway! So after a couple of days I’ve now got my truck back and spared a £360 bill! Very happy hope they continue to be as good!

I’ve also had good experiences with motoreasy. Everyone I’ve spoken to very helpful and no quibble on payout. I found I had to do a bit more running around with admin than warranty direct but then the cover was also two thirds the cost of WD for the same level

Im going through my first claim with ME at the minute after 7 years with WD. Garage diagnosed front lower wishbones as worn, rear uppers as worn, sticking front calipers and also identified the suspension compressor was failing due to the pressure slow to build fault code. Lodged the claim and while that was being reviewed, the alternator failed. Thankfully made it home before running out of volts. ME decided to send out an assessor but it took from the Friday of the failure until the Monday 10 days later before the assessor arrived. All the while Im without the car. They agreed to cover the alternator and compressor but are refusing the wishbones and the calipers as they say its not a "sudden mechanical failure". My argument is that the bushes in the wishbones suddenly lost their flexibility and are now allowing excessive movement but I am awaiting to hear back from their appeals department. WD covered the lower front arms without quibble at 50k miles. Now on 111k.

I would say that the wishbones and bushes are a wear and tear part (albeit they wear more than most would like), they wouldn't suddenly fail but wear over time and 60k miles plus is around what you might expect given that they wore out at 50k previously (most wear and tear is covered below 70k miles but not above that ISTR). Fit Meyle HD ones next time, they last longer !

Glad they covered the other bits though... that could have been quite expensive otherwise...

WD always covered wear & tear and during the big sales pitch from M&E, they claimed they did too.

I’m stunned that warranty companies pay out for wear and tear items, if that’s the case, then it’s an absolute no brainer to get warranty!

I think part of the problem is, in MEs case anyway, they say they cover wear and tear in the sales pitch, but the parts have to actually fail before they will consider the claim.

That was my experience and hence getting a refund.

That is currently my experience. Must ask of they have the recording of the sales call.....WD specifically included wear & tear. ME seem to go down the road of sudden failure.

Often wear and tear isn't covered for the first 90 days of a policy - it wasn't on Warranty Direct when my suspension valve block suddenly failed and WD refused to pay out, claiming it was wear and tear and not sudden failure. Despite it being fine one day and suddenly not fine the next day and thereafter. I still to this day have no idea how they reconciled that one.

MotorEasy replaced my front wishbones a couple of years ago without quibble when they got called out during an annual service. This was a wear and tear item. I just paid the excess.

It's worth reading the booklet detailing your cover - to be fair I fine it clearly and transparently explains what is covered and what isn't, and when.

This is where the betterment clauses in the policy are designed to prevent you ending up with a land rover version of "Triggers Broom"

Betterment was removed some years ago from WD. When I bought my policy in 2015 , I searched everywhere but found no references to it in the full documentation and offering.

I have betterment negotiated out of my ME policy and always had it removed in the previous WD ones. Same with the excess.

Forgot to say, ME only allowed 0.5hrs of labour to change the compressor and 1.3 to change the alternator. Thought that was very tight, at least for the compressor.

I've just signed up with ME, they have removed the betterment clause on my request although it didn't take much asking to be honest and I suspect it's an easy give for them. The policy includes wear and tear items too, so I'm not sure how or why they would refuse items based on W&T, that seems a concern...

Anyway, lets see how it goes!

It's just a case of phoning up and saying I want this cover but remove the betterment clause?
