They complain that imports and exports to N Ireland have stopped due to Brexit….it’s not…they’ve just been nicking all the shipping pallets!

Aren't the blue ones owned by a company and leased to hauliers, etc.? I guess they're not getting them back now.

Cheps pallets. I've seen stories where someone made a shed from them and they came to collect.

Yes, it is. "They build fires and burn flags, so we will too. It's what we do". And that is why you'll never make any progress you blithering halfwit.

TBH, I tend not to get into political issues, but these bonfires are not built by the Irish and have nothing to do with the Irish. They are built in Northern Ireland by northern Irish loyalists celebrating the Protestant victory over the Catholics back in 1690. However, in reality, they are a horrible, threatening and dangerous flashpoint. The bonfires are usually draped with posters of catholic politicians, the Irish flag (and often incorrectly the Ivory Coast flag!) , pictures of the pope etc to intimidate the other half of the community in Northern Ireland.

I am sorry that you don't have much faith in the Irish, but please don't ever confuse what is being done by those seeking to intimidate their country men in Northern Ireland with those of us living in the Republic of Ireland.

I am not a republican and have no interest in united Ireland etc, but I do not wish to be painted with the same brush as those who are building these bonfires.

Created at the end of the war to collect up the hundred of thousands of pallets littering the Pacific
Evolved from there

Useless piece of trivia for you!

That was kind of my point ... they're not bonfires, they're inflammatory symbols/acts (pun intended).

On another level, that pallet stack cannot be anything but highly dangerous as the stack can easily topple in any direction and throw burning material a long way from the stack. And it looks like it's been built on a tarmac'ed area ? that will add to the fun when that burns too.

We have 48 pallets of roof tiles being delivered in September. There is a charge of 20e per pallet. Of which I get a refund of 14e when returned. Provided they don't disappear off site in the evenings.

That bonfire has a substantial value in return pallets.
