I spoke to a reputable independent this week about rebuilding my own engine and they said that the torque figures aren't available. I have a pdf for the Peugeot 2.7 engine stating the torque figures - which i mentioned to the independent to which he replied they also have the same pdf but they aren't prepared to warrant any kind of work working from these figures, thus not prepared to attempt a rebuild.
id also be interested in the torque figures from landrover if anyone finds them.
but from what i've read the cranks and bearings aren't available to buy are they?

Yes, i took my crank out took it to a local engine engineering company who ground the big end journals and polished the mains, then suppiled my with the shells std for mains and oversized big ends. I also had to buy headset, trigger wheel, head gaskets and a con rod. i used the pdf that you talk about everything felt fine as i did the assembley (the mains are very tight!). So strange because just when you postsed, it was about the time i turned the key for the first time and YES it starts and runs fine! Sorted i think. Cheers Richard

I used the Peugeot torques and they were in DaNM. They are identical except the PSA gives a full manual with all the settings. My local PSA garage printed them off for me and were invaluable. All worked out ok except the Can issues I'm now having.
I bought all the bits from Lymm engine components

Its a 5 hour job with a 2 post lift to take off the body and another 8 or more for me to strip the engine - the slow part was rusted studs and nuts but other than that its straight forward - lots of small plastic bags with labels for the studs and nuts and small parts and label all unless yours Disco_Mikey who can doit blind fold.
The engine strip itself is very quick, just leave yourself a nice clean area to work with and clean all parts.
The machine shop with strip do everything once the heads are off. I priced around a lot wrt to price and quality and found lim engine components a good balance. I can email you the "survey" i did on price comparisons including new ancillaries. LR are a disaster for advice and parts so go indy. You'll pick up a crank fairly easily too

Yeah that'd be great, will be interesting to see prices.
I'll google Lymm engine components.
Who sells the cranks? What sort of price should I be looking at? Thanks

Yes everything is now available. The hardest bits i had to locate were the oil spray jets in the cylinders but ordinarily they wont have to be replaced.
Everything else is available overnight delivery though LR are still only selling short block engines.
PSA will sell you some parts too which, of the ones i bought were 50% cheaper than LR and were the same OEM part

6400 plus vat LR004729
There's also a 2000 plus vat on top as a surcharge for old engine.
If that's a short engine, I'm not that mechanically minded .
Don't ask me how I know
Edit : think mine was more complete than a short engine just no ancillaries
