MAF Sensor
Q: Should the D3 run differently when the MAF sensor is disconnected?
Some of you may have seen my Black Smoke thread in which I say that I have changed/eliminated most things, IC hose etc. Well, today I have disconnected the MAF sensor and there is absolutely no difference in how she runs. Same smoke, same performance, same MPG and same idling. Have I found the problem? Or, should I expect it to be the same which begs the question why is it there?
Please help, am beginning to fear that I've joined CFT!
Thank you.Java Black Metropolis MY06

Hi
Did you find your reason for black smoke? Done similar and heckled all pipes etc. The MAF sensor is reporting 0g/s.....
Did you end up trying the MAF?
Cheers

As per the post a few down this page do you have a fuse powering the MAF sensor in slot 17?

Checked that one and found have the 12v and 5v with fuse in 17.
Thank you for suggestion.... Anything taken!
The output from the MAF is a variable width pulse, the wider the pulse the more air the sensor has "seen". If you have access to a simple scope you can see if it is outputting anything. As you rev the engine the pulse width will change.Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

A multimeter with a frequency counter can also track the changes in the PWM signal:
