Loss of power

For the second time in a week I have had a loss of power. The problem occurs from the outset after starting, as opposed to whilst driving my best description is that it is like being in grass/gravel/snow but a bit more extreme.

Switching off and allowing the car to sleep has corrected it.

Any thoughts before I take it to the dealers to look at it?

Sounds like an EGR valve stuck wide open. This was one of my symptoms (along with a rash, but thats another story). It should have stored fault codes, so the dealer can look for these. I put it down to coasting to a halt on my drive, in which case the EGR valves would be open (in effect, in overrun position), but then I switched the engine off without doing anything else, so the valve then stuck in that position. I think you could get a temp reprieve by blipping the throttle and then switch off. This ought to leave the valves in the closed position.

Better fix is blank the bloody things off, as some of us have done. Much nicer drive without the hesitation of having six cylinders full of exhaust crap.

Have to agree with Al, had the same problem and the "stealers" confirmed it via the fault code that it is a faulty EGR valve. Only problem is that I have been waiting to have one fitted for the last 2 week because of nil stock at LR and nobody seems to be able to tell me when a new batch are going to be made.
Maybe I should ask them to blank them off while they are at it Whistle Thumbs Up

Greetings,

Johan

I'm not sure that a dealer would do the job, but its really easy - take a look at

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic19800.html

Given a good dose of luck, and not dropping anything vital down into the engine bay its an easy hour or so (I did it in less than that....)

Results are quite amazing, less hesitation from rest, less of the diesel rattle that mine was suffering, and better mpg around town.

Andrew W got some blanking plates made - there was a group buy ( http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic20023.html ) that sold out like hot cakes on a winter's day. It might be possible to get him to do another batch. Usual disclaimers apply, I'm just a satisfied cusomer.

If you stuff some rags around the
EGR pipes, you can easily retrieve anything you drop. 8)

Planning to do the blanking off after my warranty runs out (just to be on the safe side).

Anybody knows if one can contact LR direct (and who) to see when they will have those valves back in stock?

Greetings,

Johan
