Key fob bizarre operation 😳

Well this is weird. Just took one of my key fobs apart and put the circuit board in a replacement case. The bizarre thing is it works when not in the case yet when i put it in the case it doesn’t work. Very strange. Anybody had a similar issue. Is the case blocking the signal for instance.

I've had this issue with replacment shell that the rubber button must line up exactly with the switch on the PCB or it won't work. The board was a bit loose in the shell so they didn't stay lined up without a bit of hot glue thrown in

Well the plot thickens!! Put the PCB in just the bottom half of the case and pressed the exposed micro switches and nothing. Took the PCB out and pressed the micro switches again and it worked 😳 I think the case somehow seems to block the signal !!

are you perchance holding the pcb between your fingers thus stopping it flexing when button is pushed ? if so, points to a dry joint.

Ah, dry joints I know that one 😂 good call will investigate. Just out of interest I call a Landrover main dealer near me asked how much for two new keys complete and programmed. The reply they gave needed a large whisky😳 “£600 sir” I’ve nearly finished the bottle 😱
