Dave, the PC is a great machine and the DAS is equally capable, without the hassle of using 240/110 transformer and industrial plugs. That's the main reason I swapped over my DA machine a couple of years back. Most of the time I use a rotary, but when I need to use the DA setting up a PC was a pain.

Spain 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham BlueDiscovery 3

Hi John,

A quick question....I've previously been using a variable speed Black and Decker Random Orbit sander with polishing pads, but It never really did 'rotary' - just vibrated around without really spinning....is this normal?

I'm asking because it worked well at applying sealant etc, but was crap at actually polishing to remove anything other than very light swirls.

Does the DAS-6 work in the same way or can I expect it to give better results? Is the operation of a DA the same as that of a Random Orbit?

Must resist........

ahh Censored it....can you check postage possibilities/costs to Spain please? Whistle Thumbs Up

Paul, depends on drive of mechanism. What you'll find is that a dedicated polisher will work with applied pressure, where a sander is light pressure to operate, so as you apply more pressure on the head it may stop rotating and actually just vibrate. If that makes sense??

You should be looking at a light to medium pressure and still get roughly two full rotations a second. Best way to view this is to mark a line in the back plate so you can see it rotate and adjust your pressure accordingly.

Random and Dual Action is similar but different. Dual works on two-axis, random is just that, but when used on car paint applications the moving of the head when rotating greatly helps in keeping heat down and makes polishing or glaze/sealant/wax application a lot safer than with a rotary.

PM me your address and I'll look at postage costs by courier Thumbs Up
