Highways Agency Discovery 5...

I know it's off topic for here but what the hell. Saw a 67 plate D5 Traffic Officer car on the M5 this afternoon. Looked pretty imposing to be honest, even the back end seemed to work better with the signage and hi-vis. No photo but I'm sure we'll see more of them.

I thought it looked OK, it was going the other way in the roadworks. Saw the rear in my mirror, and it was instantly recognisable.

I reckon the fact that the Agencies and emergency organisations are starting to use them, will help it gain credibility, which is something it seems to be lacking at the moment.

Was it Police, or Highways England (nee Highways Agency)?

I saw what I thought was one on the M20 yesterday although it didn't seem to have as much hi viz attached. Definitely a D5 with stickers galore and beacons on the roof.

Despite a good old Google explore, I can't find any evidence or images. Nothing. Confused

I see that they’ve managed to source a proper flange tow bar to mount a jaw on; I’m still struggling to find one for the FF!

That electric tow bar is a work of genius - build an off road car, with a 3.5 tonne towing limit and then offer it with a tow bar that’s restricted to 1 tonne off road! Evil or Very Mad

With the tailgate open and obscuring the roof lights, half of the tail light’s not fitted and most of what’s left mounted on the tailgate and pointing skywards, I wonder if they’ve added any additional rear lighting to make it safe when they’re working and the tailgate is open?

You would need to be blind not spot the D5 on a dark road with the tailgate open, plus the strobe lights would still be seen through the back window.

I’ll do a test one night down the field, but then again the way I feel about my D5 at the moment I may just leave it there.

Considering the amount of reflective and Day-glo fitted, they expect to come across blind people every day and I’m sure they won’t be disappointed!

I think you may find that what ever part of of roof lights isn’t obscured by the plastic part of the tailgate, will be obscured by the spoiler; happy to be proven wrong though Thumbs Up

I would assume a similar set up would be used for the D5

Plenty areas for lighting
