I just went through 6 weeks of this. Very likely your problem is (in order of magnitude, expense and ease of repair):
1) Brake switch - buy one out of a 2009 Ford Focus to save about half the cost
2) Battery and/or connections
3) a small diameter red wire along the passenger (LHD) side door sill has broken connection (and likely some water ingress causing corrosion/this broken connection) - check the image attached.

Please feel free to PM me and I'll walk you through what had to be done to fix it, 300+ miles on "Moneypenny" so far and no chimes!

Thank you for the reply, I have charged my battery which I'm going to swap back onto the car today, I'll also pick up a brake light switch. I've read a few threads relating to this wire, I'll have a look for it and any problems I'll give you a shout. Thanks again.
Thumbs Up

I probably cursed myself by thinking I hadn't had too many problems so far, but a similar fault just happened to me. HDC Fault, Amber suspension, DSC and brake warnings plus lowered suspension.

I'll check my battery, and maybe try a brake light switch. I noticed a couple of nights ago that the brake light seems to station for a second after the pedal is released.

I've just ordered a brake light switch from advanced factors. I'll swap batteries over in the morning and go from there. Fingers crossed. I'm a little worried that my abs seemed to activate a couple of times but it was very wet last time I drove it.

I checked the battery this morning and got 12.03v, and 15.08v shortly after starting. To my untrained eye it seems like the alternator is charging okay, but that the battery may be struggling to cope with the cold weather and lots of demand. Maybe it's time for a new one (plus a precautionary brake light switch).

On a more positive note, the FBH was working this morning for the first time this winter.

If its happening (semi-)regularly, only swap 1 at a time so you can figure out which it is.

Good advice. Being a careful Yorkshireman I was going to do the switch first because it's the cheapest.

I'm just waiting for the switch to come from A/f, the battery is charged. I'll swap them over and report back. Thumbs Up

I replaced the brake light switch with a new one from Advanced Factors on Wednesday, and so far no more HDC fault.

My Disco 3 last did this in 2012 a brake light switch cured it 8)

However, on Saturday evening it randomly did it again...
....and it the dash board Christmas Tree remains there Big Cry

Numerous random DTCs logged Confused

On Sunday I changed the brake lamp bulbs with some nice new Lucas ones, 'cos I have these.
Fault still there. Rolling Eyes

Today (Monday) have ordered a new genuine Land Rover Brake Light switch XKB500110
from my local independent LR/Jag parts dealer - bit surprised that they did not have a load of them in stock Shocked
It will be in and I'll report back....

Third option will be tracing that Censored little red wire

Does not appear to be a simple fix Rolling Eyes
Brake lamps and switch changed for new ones.
Hard reset done - no change
Little red wire checked on brake light switch - yes it has 12v Rolling Eyes
Will now go away and read the DTCs. I only have a simple Hawkeye Embarassed
As this is now getting more complex will start a new posting....

Had the same problem and changed the normal components, even had the air suspension pump refurbished and all the earth connectors checked. Finally had a full diagnostics and it was a sticky valve on the air compressor. This made the compressor work too hard which randomly tripped the system out giving the Christmas tree faults.
If you can get a donor compressor I would try that.
Ended up getting a new pump upgraded version, 10k miles and no faults.
Hope this helps.

Managed to have a look at this today. Replaced the battery, replaced the brake light switch, tried a hard reset, checked for voltage on little red wire, replaced and checked the brake light bulbs. Still got the fault. As soon as I switch the ignition on now though, when I started the car to take it to my garage, I selected normal height and the car slowly even dare I say reluctantly rose, back front back front kind of thing. Now when I get the bong HDC fault, special programs unavailable, suspension lowered etc I notice the adaptive headlights warning light is flashing too. Big Cry looks like I need a dude with a fault code reader. Although I suspect it's going to be the compressor.

I had this problem for months - steering angle sensor worked for me!

I did the same "self help" as you.

I ended up taking my D3 to Kwik Fit for a full steering alignment and they reset my steering angle sensor.

No more problem! Do try it!
