Grey Smoke on idle - injector woes
I’ve not long had my D3 and it’s proving to be a little troublesome but no matter, we press on.
It’s a 2008 EU4 car so when I got it as a already had one of Pete Bells dongles for my RR, I opted to have a remap for the D3, removing the EGR’s. I blanked the lower part of them and removed the butterfly.
Since then, the car has been a little troublesome but after searching through this forum, its seems to be the injectors at fault. I’ve logged the output of the injectors as per the pics below and was hoping somebody knowledgeable would be able to pinpoint the issue.
Is it simply some of them are duff and need replacing? The ones with the flatter curves that don’t really match the revs?
Advice and help always appreciated.

I would start by removing the remap, if it was no trouble before and the smoke started afterwards.

I have thought of that, a used throttle body is en route as the actuator housing had a crack in it so it was easier just to get a new unit before unblanking EGR and removing remap. Still not sure why the map would send the injectors out though.
Should add the MAP not MAF has been changed for a new one.D3 G4 Selections car ‘08

I put the car back to standard today, unblanked the EGR and again there was plenty of smoke so I thought that’s not the issue. The injector logs were still all over the place so out the injectors came to be tested/refurbished/replaced.

I’d probably put it all back together and put some injector cleaner in the fuel and give it a good run. Start with the simple stuff first.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Injectors were tested by Dieselcraft close to me and 5 were passed as ok but one was leaking so has been fixed and recalibrated. I'll commence reassembly tomorrow and see how its changed things.D3 G4 Selections car ‘08

That injector by the battery had many many new one syllable names during its extraction.
Hoping reassembly goes a little better.D3 G4 Selections car ‘08

Refitted the injectors today and fired up the car and....... just the same - lots of smoke. The injector balancing values are now much better though, closer together with no outlying figures which is positive.
So, I’m guessing it’s something else. Head gasket? Coolant clean with no oil present, oil filler cap and dipstick free of milky gunge so no obvious signs.
Turbo? No error codes to point towards it but the car is definitely holding back and doesn’t appear to be spooling up.D3 G4 Selections car ‘08

I'm surprised by that given there's an obvious combustion issue. Have a look at the injector trim levels again but the values must be taken at idle speed only!
Beyond that and in the absence of any dtc's, a 5.5 mm borescope into each cylinder might reveal something, but I'd suggest alternative diagnostics first before you go pulling the injectors again.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

These are the latest values at idle with a small rev of the engine. Much more even at idle.

In my view they're all acceptable at 776 rpm, something else is going on!
Values above idle mean nothing without specialist test equipment, but I'd be happy enough with those readings to rule out injectors for now.
EDIT: Assuming 776rpm is at idle!!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
