BUT ....... don't understand why price parity has widened between Diesel and Unleaded.
Especially AFAIA Diesel costs less to produce than Unleaded.
example:
July 2006 - Diesel 99p v Unleaded 96p =3p difference
Dec 2008 - Diesel 99p v Unleaded 87.5p = 11.5p difference
So in 18 months the price parity has widened by 283%
At this time of year there is a massive demand for heating oil, which is essentially the same as diesel. Price difference reflects this increase in demand vs. a finite refinery resource AND the increase in diesel fuel duty.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the gap is due to having to ship in diesel from far shores to satisfy the increase in UK demand for the black stuff. UK refineries cannot cope at the moment with their old antiquated plants.
Fuel oil is a regular shipment into the Forth berthing points

I always thought the reason diesel costs more is because you go further on a gallon than petrol therefore keep the price high you earn a high percentage of tax for equal amount sold and government don't loose out. Cynical moi

It's only in the UK where diesel is higher than petrol. Just about every other european country (well, all the ones I'm aware of) has diesel cheaper.
And here in lux it just keeps going down...filled up for 0.798 euro cents yesterday. Thats 77 pence per litre.The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

"They" don't have to go that far....The Various Euoroport refineries produce a whole bunch of the 28/35 sec stuff for most of Europe - with other refineries in Malmo, Dunkirk with capacity. Also 28/35 sec oil is sold on a "spot market" as are other heavier fuels.BREXIT - done properly.

I agree totally with you Still got shipping costs. There are regular imports via the forth ports into Grangemouth. During the strike last year there were two additional tankers parked in the forth to ensure supplies.

Not that the supplies were ensured, most garages around here were bingo DERV ISTR, although our SNP masters were happliy saying that there were only 5 garages in Scotland that were dry, talk about spin!
