EPB Auto release failure

Hi Guys,

have had a search and can't really find anything conclusive,

I have an orange triangle accompanied by the message: park brake auto-release failure

i have tried disconnecting the battery for 2 mins, touching the live and neg together to reset the ecus, to no avail.

Also tried pulling off in low range, still no joy.

Has anyone had this message and successfully got rid of it. I have booked it in with the dealers as it has a warranty, but it can't go in until the week after next so if there is any way of fixing at home i would like to have a try.

btw its a 2.7 manual commercial D4.

cheers in advance.

Is the gear indicator on the instrument cluster showing the selected gear position correctly? If not its the common D3 xy sensor out of sync problem. Easily fixed follow process explained here:

Cheers for the reply, dont think it ever has had a gear number displayed on the dash? Are manual d4s sopposed to display the gear number?

Not sure about gear indicator, never seen the lessor spotted manual D4, real collector item Bow down
It may be worth trying to recalibrate xy sensor as explained go through all gears in low range....

Not withstanding my last post......

I noticed that on engaging reverse I had no parking sensors or reverse light.
so X-Y sensor was out as per advice above.

i tried the following bearing in mind its a manual:

find a nice long piece of road,
park up, select low range (so you don't need as much road)
engage R
reverse up the road for 10 secs
stop engage 1st
drive in first 10 secs
engage 2nd
drive in second for 10 secs
etc with all the gears
stop.
Neutral

engine off

restart
Engage Hi range
engage EPB and try to pull off.

Sorted Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

and No the D4 doesn't have the gear number in the dash. So thanks to D4JWW for pointing me right. Bow down

Going in this Friday, as I needed a courtesy car and that was earliest.

Still not been able to reset it, and it is pretty much constantly on. Hopefully warranty will cover it!

Ok so it's been in today, and it could be a number of things.......

Xy sensor fail
Worn clutch
Knackered dmf

But the won't know without taking the box out of the car to check the clutch and dmf.

Personally I reckon it could be the Dmf as every car I have had with one has had it fail.... Rolling Eyes

Anyhow they hadn't got workshop time today to do it so will go in in a couple of weeks to get it sorted. Fortunately it has a carcareplan warranty (basically lr approved used) so the Dmf and xy sensor would be covered but the clutch isn't.

Yep, was the DMF.

Took the clutch with it too.

Fortunately the warranty paid up for both so all good in the end.

No fault shown in the xy switch, so not swapped.
