Most difficult pipe to replace?

I think I have found the most difficult pipe to replace on a D3. Not leaking yet but too risky to ignore. Anyone hazard a guess before I post a photo?

If you class a brake line being attached to the rear upper control arm which also needs doing as part of the job.. Definitely that lol

Several times I have replaced all D3 rear brake pipes, body on, and body off. Can be tricky but there is a technique which makes it straightforward, with a neat finish.

I already have the body off this car. There are two routes to access the pipe, but either way it is going to take a couple of hours to replace.

If the pipe failed, I would expect a £5k car reduced to around £500 scrap value.

I would hazard a guess on one of the buried coolant hoses?

Here is the problem, main coolant pipe from thermostat to engine block,

Along with three other used pipes "in stock"

This one looked fine from above, but not good underneath,

Do you think this rust is a consequence of vehicle use or quality control?

Ancient Viking burial mounds contain iron ware and weapons that are less rusty than that pipe Shocked

What have they done with it? Soaked in the North Sea?

I seem to recall someone on here had an engine failure after this pipe burst and blew all the coolant out onto the road in a matter of seconds... also an article a few years ago in LRO technical bit where someone spotted their pipe was close to failure and already leaking coolant through a pin hole...

Do you think it's necessary to replace as preventative maintenance? Possible to do at home, or how much labour at a garage?

And is it common for this to cause engine failure as the cars get older? Laughing
