Diesel Additives use on D4

Having just acquired my first Discovery (2012 D4 XS) I am fumbling around on a steep learning curve...so forgive me if this is a silly question...just need to be sure.

On D3 thread I read that 2stroke oil when mixed with diesel can give improvements in starting, tickover noise, mpg etc. My question is ....whether there is anything in the D4 or newer models engine that would suggest this was NOT wise to try or would NOT yield the same perceived benefits as the D3 engine?

Coming from 50years of petrol cars, diesels can appear a bit of a new bag of worms.

Thanks

I don't think it does any harm and defiantly makes the engine sound better. I have have been a mechanic( tecnitan in modern speech ) since the mid 60s http://disco4.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif I always add about 250ml of top quality 2strok oil at each fill up

Welcome Wolfpack

I agree with Geoff. (But I wouldn't dare not to!)

As he says just put decent fuel in, no supermarket rubbish - I, and my cars, prefer Shell or BP best.

Then, if you want add SO2 - which I do..

SO2 = sulphur dioxide which some believe you need to add to modern diesel to increase lubrication of rotating & reciprocating parts.

One adds something like Castrol Actevo 2T, or another mineral oil complying with international standard JASO FC because this increases the sulphur dioxide in the fuel.

Have a look at these threads:-

I found 2SO made a difference when put in my D3
I do notice a difference when I put Millers Diesel Power Ecomax in the tank of the D4 though .......forum sponsor Oilman quite often has decent deals, and even after postage is cheaper than Halfrauds Thumbs Up

Well in fairness I have been happy with mpg (compares well to literature) but I do find the engine noisy and clattering on tickover and moving slowly in slow gears around town. With windows open it echoes more I suppose, but it would be nice if it was quieter.

SO2 sulphur dioxide not recommended for adding - it is a gas so would be fairly difficult

2SO 2 stroke oil - recommended by some to be added for lubrication.
