Small job today: replaced the power steering cooler pipe bracket at the side of the condenser. Original didn't survive being removed after 18 years!

Wasn't today but at the weekend, passed another MOT!

The beast is now 18 years old with 248k miles on the clock. The only advisories were for rear brake lines being corroded / covered in grease or other material, a job for the next couple of months.

If anyone is based in the York area, I highly recommend York MOT Centre on Hospital Fields Road. Have used them for the last few years, they are good guys. Efficient and professional. Thumbs Up

Bigger job today (and my arms and back are aching now) - replaced the alternator and serpentine belt. I probably made all the first timer mistakes, but all done now and charging the battery at the correct level, so very happy.

I discovered that the lower tensioner pulley has a rumbly bearing, so, joy of joys, I'll need to order that and rip it all apart again soon.

I put in a new denso unit. The failed alternator was a rebuilt Lucas Exchange, but it did pretty well and lasted for 110k miles.

Lower Serpentine belt Tensioner replacement + others

Got the lower tensioner from Advanced factors this week. Now fitted - I'm getting a lot of use out of the radiator fan removal spanners that i thought would be used once and then put away for years.

Took the opportunity to replace the throttle housing seal as I have had a bit of oil blowing.

Replaced a rear plate bulb.

Booking in for the MOT some time next week.

Vehicle passed annual emissions and inspection once again. No notices.
New air tank, too, and a new paint job on the rear door (the other party’s insurance took care of this) and bonnet (garage did it for free to test shade of blue color). 🤟

Picked up my (new to me) 07 plate D3 yesterday and ordered an alternator, which I knew it would need for my 1st job on it, as voltage output low and occasionally throws up HDC fault.

Drive Shaft

Had an advisory on the mot for a inner cv joint boot perished, so having read a few links on here decided it was a goer.
All went well until trying to remove the shaft from the front diff, it would'nt budge, I tried a few times with a prybar etc but no joy, so rebuilt what I could and put it all back together, however in my exuberance I must have belted the oil seal housing and had oil leaking quite badly the next day. A friend of a friend had access to a 2 post lift so yesterday we stripped it all out again and this time having removed a part of the sub frame and a few big hits with a cold chisel the whole shaft came out, leaving a dented oil seal and housing on show, we managed to dress out the damage on the housing and put in a new oil seal, replaced everything and so far, no oil leaks, yippee.
Its amazing the difference the post lift makes to working on your back in the cold!
Have noticed that the rear nearside tie link bush is worn, so that's the next task.

Rear toe rods

Just replaced both rear toe rods MOT advisory, a Censored to get off, the inner nuts were well rusted Big Cry Big Cry , but came off eventually with a 900mm breaker bar and some effort. Inners reset to 12mm using a drill bit. Took 4 hours including tools out and away and moving car as only access to one side at a time, plus a few tea breaks.
Booked in for 4 wheel alinement on Thursday at local indie.
Satisfying job. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Today i replace the air filter, obviously this hadnt been replaced in the pre-purchase service done a couple of months ago, or for a few years before that!!!

i also replaced the AUX belt while i was there, after a few minutes of being stumped as to how to get release the tensioner, a quick search on here later i had the 3/8" socket in place and replaced the belt.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
