Hi,

I've searched quite a few threads but can't find one that matches my problem, which is: the upper tailgate won't open with the switch. The only way to open it is to use the boot-release on the key fob.

The tailgate stopped responding to the switch a week or so ago - not so much as a noise when pressed. I have replaced the switch with one soldered into the existing loom. It definitely goes short-circuit when pressed and shorting the wires doesn't result in anything either.

It seems to point to a problem in the loom but are these known to have a problem? They are only a couple of pieces of wire. Weary experience with LR products means it wouldn't surprise me if the switch goes off to a computer to ask permission to open it, rather than just activating the solenoid locally!

Are the three Torx screws on the underside of the tailgate near the switch supposed to do anything? They turn and turn without any effect.

Finally, is the status of the switch something reported to a computer/CAN bus tool?

My wife finds it very annoying so, of course, it is my highest priority task of the weekend.

Thanks,

Hugh

May be the problem is in the loom.... try to test with a multimeter and trace it with the electrical diagram

I have exactly the same problem. I replaced the switch still no joy. Only way I can open the upper tailgate is with the fob and the lower tailgate works perfectly. I am guessing broken wire between the switch and actuator. I would appreciate any suggestions.

HWN, did you manage to fix yours?

upper tailgate

Hi all, I too have exactly the same problem, nothing from the switch but the key fob works perfectly.
Did anyone get a solution to this issue?
I have a feeling it's to do with the actuator in the lower tailgate for some random reason.

TIA

I had the same. It turned out to be the actuator although logically it didn't make sense. Easy job. Less than an hour to replace.

Part number

Hallo together…i do have the same problem since some weeks - first started sporadically with disfunction - now dead (no raction at the tailgate switch - but with the fob the door opens reliable - till now)…so my question: whats the part number of the actuator you all replaced? FUG500010 ? Is it a good idea to change this part without checking any other options? ThX for you opions and helping me
