not mine..a friends only done 40k. kms oil change every 5k km

shell rotation.

no cross hatching ( other thread asking when this started)

So after all the D3 issues they went back to a smooth finish for the 3.0 D4???

Are the oil holes different?

I never looked at the oil feed holes as the engine was in bits piled on a bench but the main caps (on the shelf below) had no crosshatch which suprised me.

no locking tabs as you can see.( no suprise there)


my friend was driving on the expressway when it seized, not a happy moment..

pistons looked not bad considering fuel quality here. and by all report was running great.


my friend has other cars so D4 is not overly used.( which may add to problem)

but it has caused quite a ripple over here with many people looking to offload their cars.

They don't learn. Tabs are a must. The problem is always the same.

I don't understand LR/Jaguar/Ford-PSA. They are aware of this design flag.

In the USA... They will be in court with a class action and they will be forced to cover all the failed engines, yes or yes.

This is the weak point of this cars, they know it, consumers know it. And is a design flag. Why the don't cure this issue? Why the loyal LR buyers have to charge themselves with this easy and cheap avoidable money leak? Loyalty is bidirectional, so... i understand people that want to get rid of their cars.

I feel sad for we,the tdv6 owners, I have one too. We have a russian roulette in our hood. A ticking bomb that dont warns before exploding.

Problem is, in the USA they don't get the TDV6, they are all V8 or V6 petrols. Do they have tabbed shells?

Even the 1966 series 2.25 petrol I have is built with tabbed shells on the mains and big ends.

Mate of mine is working on the new BMW engine which will not have any shells just tight tolerance oil resistance. According to him Landrover's future concepts will also use this technology, good thing or not time will tell.
