D4 Front Disks & Pads

Hi All,

I need to replace the front disks and pads on my D4.

What's the current go to setup for replacements? Seems lots of "Kits" available. Any good ones or ones to avoid?

Thanks

Advanced Factors will provide you with what you need. Excellent service from them. I am not connected to them but have ordered parts from them several times.

Thanks. Yes i used Advanced for the last set and was very pleased with their service.

They have a couple of D4 front kits available, so was just interested if anyone had any preference on brand etc.

The only thing I would avoid is the 'low dust' pads. I tried a set and they had much less bite than the Meyle set I replaced them with.

Some disc brands are bare metal all over. Genuine, Meyle and some other brands are painted, and the unswept part of the disc stays looking tidy for much longer.

I replaced both front and rear pads on my 2016 Discovery last Saturday.
Quick delivery of pads and sensors from Advanced.
Although both sets were Meyle only rear pads had replacement caliper slide bolts included, no biggie, drop of loctite and reused old bolts.
Only hassle was trying to unplug front sensor as it was behind plastic inner mudguard and although hesitant to remove the plastic clips I eventually "hugged" the mudguard to unplug and refit.

Thanks guys.

So everyone happy with the Meyle Kit then:

I was thinking the Meyle above, or Mintex Set below from JGS

https://www.jgs4x4.co.uk/discovery-4-l319-...cs-mintex/

Both similar in price at around £160 ish.

I’ve always gone for Pagid myself. I’m sure they were around £120’ish.

No problem with the low dust pads here - nice shiny front wheels too!

Cheers all, looks like everyone has their preferred brands.

I would like to purchase from AF as a site sponsor, so was just really checking if everyone was happy with the Meyle or the cheaper option of the Einbach.

Well, i started changing the disks and pads last night.

The front left calliper has a seized piston in it, so i couldn't wind it back enough to fir the new pads. What a pain! When i took the old pads off, i did notice the pad had worn to a light wedge shape as i guess one of the pistons hasn't moved for a while.

So, ive decided to put the old stuff back on and take everything to the garage for them to sort out. I had the the D4 booked into the garage on Monday for them to replace the rear brake lines as they are rusty anyway, so I'm going to get them to replace the calliper, fit the new disks and pads, and sort the rusty brake lines!

The Calliper should be under warranty according to my WD policy book, so hopefully that will lighten the total bill a bit!

Just need to hope i can now get the old disks and pads back on so i can drive it to the garage.

Never easy!!
