D4 - EPB - new REAR discs, pads and handbrake shoes

Not sure where to start with this, but here goes.....

Bought new discs and pads - Brembo from ECP - this part is ALL good Smile
Bought new handbrake shoes - Britpart from JGS4x4 (Part no: SFS500012) - this is where the issue exists Sad

Didn't have the guts to do it myself (even with Bods Bible) so got a mobile mechanic to come fit for me. Working from home so it seemed a good option for them to come to me....and £80 fitment price....

Mechanic turned up Monday - fitted parts. Told NSR calliper was part seized but he's resolved and all is good.

Post fitting the parts, I asked him if he had "adjusted" the new handbrake (EPB) shoes. His answer was: "you don't need too, my computer does it all" - now having investigated this throughly (i.e. Bods Bible) I knew this to BS but he refused to do any adjustment.

He came back on Wednesday as the car was stating brake pads low - the connector was loose at the back (the early warning sign of this whole charade I suspect).......

Didn't use the car yesterday, but did this afternoon and frankly wish I hadn't, I'm sat here feeling very Censored ed off and irritated.....took the car about 8 miles, starting hearing a rubbing / clicking sound from the rear....sounded like something was hitting the mud guard by the rotors.

After another 2 miles, the noise got louder and louder. I stopped and got out to take a look and nothing visibly untoward, but I knew it was EPB / shoes related in my heart of hearts. This car never misses a beat and has been hugely reliable.

I (probably wrongly) pulled up on the Parking brake lever to see what would or would not happen. It made a clonk noise and the normal screeching was longer and louder (if that makes sense). EPB released so I headed for home pronto.

I limped home with the rubbing noise and it got back ok and then proceeded to call the mechanic who had been out - I need the car desperately this weekend (freedom right!) and he tells me he can't come back out until Weds Sad

He continues to tell me that on the old shoes there was a small spring (you'd see in a pen) - his words not mine - that did not come with the Britpart shoes he had fitted, so he left off the old springs which were in pretty poor order as there were no holes for them.

I am at my wits end with what kit to buy next that includes ALL the springs and pins as there are loads out there, but don't particularly want to dry fisted by Land Rover if I go there, plus (I assume) there will be some sort of ancillary springs, shims, pins kit I'd also require??

Frankly I don't even want him to come back to have a second go if I obtain a new kit (my assumption is that the kit he fitted is F$$ked). Plus he doesn't seem to want to do the adjustment / bedding in procedure I've read so much about.

Does anyone know of a clued up mechanic around Winchester that could (a) tell me which kit to buy and (b) IDEALLY come and fit for me.

££££$$$$ on offer - just want it done (ASAP) and properly.

I'm not sure I want to risk driving it that far as I don't particularly want to damage anything further, especially the nice new discs!!

Any advice, recommendations, offers or assistance greatly appreciated in advance.

Cheers guys.

Dump the mobile mechanic and engage a LR independent specialist who knows what they are doing.

Hopefully no serious damage has been done, but you need to take it to a LR indy specialist. I'm sure there is more than one near you, but others with local knowledge will be able to advise or recommend a reputable repairer. Thumbs Up

Britpart do a spring set for the EPB shoes - https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-LR031947FK Not sure if the Britpart number is there but its what I bought and got Britpart supplied - you might find it difficult to get someone to take on another mechanics lash up!

Id consider having the back wheels off and adjusting the rear brake clearances as per bodsys bible - you might find that and the bedding in procedure is all it needs.

The other option is that he has not got the springs connected correctly and one has popped off
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

Is the “mechanic” from a national enterprise that takes your credit card details before doing the job?
The low pad indicator likely means he has not fitted a new sensor cable or if it did not need one he has damaged it on removal, best to check before ordering parts Thumbs Up
A little consolation I doubt any damage has been done to the new components they just need setting up properly and new springs fitting, the springs hold the disk in place to stop it rubbing.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks guys.

So I’ve uncovered that 2 elements exist with regards my cars situation.

Firstly the mobile mechanics lack of capabilities ‘likely’ contributed to this, but more importantly and secondly, the Britpart failed and spectacularly Sad

Bearing in mind the shoes had been on the car less than 48 hours!

Whatever glue was used during manufacturing was either absent or of horrendous quality (see pic) - upon further inspection, there was little if any glue on the shoe as shown.

Frankly, this has got my hackles up as it’s sold as a quality product.

I took the car to a pro (PEX5x5) who stunningly (on a BH weekend) told me to go straight down for a look - he removed the crap shoes, or what was left of them, fully cleaned and

adjusted (this guys attention to detail was borderline OCD but welcomed) and replaced with Ferodo parts.

Luckily the EPB module was fine having likely wound itself completely out Mad

Anyway, lesson learnt and I think I’ve just found my mechanic moving forwards - 5 stars ⭐️

Cheers
