D4 Bonnet release broken.. help!

Hi All,

Just looked and its 4 years since i posted.. oops, where did all the time go.

A friend of mine helped my to repair my damaged Discovery 4 but he had some ill health so it was November 2019 before I got it on the road - what an amazing car, I can see why people love them as was lucky enough to get a couple of UK holidays in during the brief release from lockdown last summer to Devon and Dorset so got to enjoy the D4 at last.

Due to the lockdown its sitting on the drive and the battery is low, went to pop the bonnet to charge it.. and a bit of resistance followed by nothing!

So I cannot open the bonnet and need to asap before my battery is dead, alarms start going off etc.. As we changed the front slam panel I guess the release cable was not properly connected and has come free Sad

I know we don't want any info on the open forum but hoping someone can PM me how to release the latches, I bought a probe camera to help and have made progress.

Can someone PM me or suggest who I could PM for help?

cheers
Kev

Can you pop the front grill of to try and fish the cable or even pop the latches separately

Yeah, going to try that today, I think the cable will release one side so was hoping someone could advise one the other.

Having repaired this car I happen to have a complete undamaged slam panel that I did not use so I've been playing with the cables to see how it works. All its done so far is confirm this is not as easy as it sounds!

cheers

You can charge the battery through the towing electrics if you have them installed

Ah, interesting, thanks. I do have towing electrics, I'll look that up.

I was wondering if I could charge through lighter sockets etc, if I don't get it open soon I'll look into charging via towing electrics to buy me more time.

All trying to remove the front grill so far has earnt me is painful fingers Laughing

You will need one of these from the forum shop https://fnltd.co.uk/shop/tow-electrics-cha...c-p45.html or you can make your own

Thanks for the info, I've managed to get it open.

It was more like the incredible hulk working on a car, a mixture of careful considered actions, then anger and brute force.

As expected the little plastic fitting that joins the cables had poped open, I'm going to put a zip tie on it to make sure I never get to spend sunday afternoon this way again Very Happy

CTEK is now doing its stuff

this may sound harsh but the forum regards this info as a security problem. I'm going to try and open a debate on that BUT in the meantime, just pretend you have a Jag and not a Disco ... then let Google be your friend !
