D3 v8 - should I go for?

Hi, All.

Just need a little bit of experts advice Bow down and maybe a bit of push or pull in decision making. I'm currently in love with my Java Black D3 TDV6 SE full cream leather with 235k on clock. Owning her for almost 7 years as second owner and never had any issues with Very Happy . All maintenance done in timely manner and TBH previous driver (I bought it with 139k miles) done a lot to keep her running. New compressor, brake pipes, second timing belt change at 190k, now upgraded to Logic 7, list of good things is pretty endless....
Unfortunately I found this Whistle https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-Disco...fresh=true
and have massive dilemma what to do. Always dreamed about V8, double sunroof looking great and my kids would love it, just a colour isn't my favour Mr. Green (I'm not a fan of any silverish).
165k miles for Jag V8 is pretty nothing, isn't it. I'm not worry about MPG as currently doing about 5k miles per year anyway, also there is always possibility to convert for good LPG if needed.
Just need your thought Bow down

p.s. I've made an offer this morning anyway and waiting for seller to respond. Whistle Couldn't sit still and always can withdraw it Thumbs Up

Seems like they drive it from one MOT to the next and only deal with stuff that comes up when it doesn't pass...... I'd give it a very careful look over before committing..

I would say it has not been looked after at all looking at the reasons for MOT failures. That alone would give me reason to pass it by.

Guess being doctors (not sure why that is in the advert!) they are better at looking after people than cars. That said when faced with your first bill you might need their professional services!

Thank Nigel.
That is what I thought, first owner use to drive it a bit (14k per year) but second one seems to only travel around London. The only part which raise some concerns to me are brake pipes, everything else is pretty wear and tear, and doable (and enjoyable Laughing ) on drive way Razz
I'd like to give it a good check obviously - but believe as soon as engine oil, differential and gearbox was well looked after, it might be a reasonable option to buy.

Well pointed RATA1.
Doctors are usually Merc or BMW orientated anyway this days, aren't they. Not driving 16years old Disco around the town Laughing

My D3 was on the same year and flew through it's MOT last year with no advisories... now safely in the hands of another forum member Very Happy

Seems this is a Head -v- Heart purchase... you know you want one ... but is it this one? Good price but you'll be spending at least Β£1-2k sorting it out once you get it.. I hope your offer was low Laughing

Must be bad.

I still have my alerts set up from when I was looking in 2016 and spotted this one and thought it was cheap.

The V8 option is great and highly recommended. I've just ordered an P400 110...... so watch this space!

Ps I dont think the D3 V8 is a jag engine? BMW rings a bell.

As for jag v8s doing the miles easily, anyone say camchains/tnesioners Mr. Green

Jag AJ engine in the D3s and later L322. BMW 4.4 in the earlier L322s that suffered from eating the tensioners

Yes, AJ in D3s for sure and only what it eats are miles and fuel Rolling with laughter no major issues, unless I missed something. Also, gearbox is good old ZF if properly looked after
pjm - 84 how is your V8? What have you had to do since 2016?

For such a big car living on the street (presumably) in London it looks very tidy. Passenger side bodywork looks two different colours, like rear passenger door and rear quarter been sprayed (from photo's the tailgate looks same colour as the passenger front half)
