Chinese Brake Calipers

Plenty on offer for around £30, slightly different branding and suppliers but most likely all from the same Chinese source. Plenty claim OEM but I suspect not. I wouldn't be surprised if the Britpart / Bearmarch offerings had a similar origin too?

A few seem to say that supplied carrier holes don't line up (just re-use the old), others that the seal face to the hose banjo needed light dressing with a file.

Anyone have any experiences to share either good or bad?

I guess I'm primarily interested in how long they might last!

Thanks

Mikey

Its 3 tone brick that you and possibly your family travel in. Why take the risk that they might fail for the sake of a few quid?

Tyres and brake components are not the items where you want to get the cheapest IMHO

Ive had Britpart front and rear callipers on my D3 for the last 4 years with no issue - cant complain about them, but not tried the Chinese ones - just remember if its CE marked from a Chinese manufacturer that just means Chinese Export!

I’m not recommending the use of Chinese brake calipers. But I have had Britpart rear calipers on mine for the last 6 yrs or so, and have no complaints. They work, they don’t leak, and what’s more they don’t stick and cause excessive friction/heat, like the OEM ones, so I don’t think that the original are ‘holier than thou’ for one minute. Laughing

Never had any issues with replacements.
The only difference I could tell between the £40 and £120 ones (and I've bought both) was the £80 extra still in my wallet! Wink

If you’ve seen any of my posts you may have seen that I’m a cheap Censored ,
but there are two things I’ll never skimp on, a glass of single malt, and car brakes, as moo said, can you rely on cheap copies stopping 3 tonnes at 70mph?

What is a cheap copy and what isn’t? I’ve got 3 calipers from AF and they’re certainly not stamped with the oval and they’ve been fine. Copy, yes. Cheap(er), yes.

Britpart fronts fitted to my D3 6 years ago, still working fine.

I do give the brakes some stick.

Britpart on the rear of the 90, had two sets in 8 years, my fault as they seized from lack of use, but at 50 quid the pair who cares!

That does look like a resounding endorsement for Britpart Smile

Britpart is is then, especially as only around a tenner plus vat more than the Ebay cheapies (with most of that being down to postage!). I just hope that the Britpart ones aren't also made in China, lol.

Thanks! Thumbs Up

I tried Britpart ones on the front of my last D3, new copper washers but could not get them to stop leaking fluid at the pipe union, ended up refurbing my genuine.

I wonder if the seal faces required light filing as seems to be the case with some of the Chinese ones?
