CB Aerial
Hi All,
Finally got round to buying a CB from an nice man in a shack on the M5 Michael Wood services...
I recall a thread which explained how to use a flat steel plate and an M12 coach bolt (or similar) to create a aerial mount which attaches to a Frontrunner rack.
I'll be dammed if i can find it. Can anyone point me in the general direction
Cheers
DuncanDuncan

Ok Aerial now fitted by a steel plate to the Front runner rack.
However, the instructions say a"good ground" should be acheived and the Front Runner rack is Alluminium.
do I need to run an earth cable from the mount to the vehicle or will the aerial cable suffice.
All advice appreciated
Thanks

I'm no expert on radios, but aluminium is still conductive and should still provide you with a good ground, provided of course that at the point of contact there is no paint or plastic coating. And that the Frontrunner is not insulated from the vehicle chasis.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

Thanks JamesR,
The rack is painted (albeit with a very thin layer) and I have no idea if its insulated.
I'm guessing something isnt right cos I cant hear anyone talking !!Duncan

If you've got a spare length of wire you could try running a temporary ground cable from the base of the antenna to the chasis and see if it works or not.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

Also that anodized aluminium is high resistance too. Had a friend that put some snazzy blue handlebars on his Yamaha TR1 motorbike and then couldn't get it to start, had to clean off an area at the switch cluster and the headstock clamp to make contact then it was fine

Aluminium is conductive, however the anodised or e-cote paint finish is not, you may also find the rail is insulated or partly insulated from the vehicle, best solution is to run a wire to a good ground.
