Trouble is, if you have a short at either end or in the middle, it will show a short anywhere on the setup.
Can you undo where the cable goes into the mount? If so, detach the mount from the cable and test the thread to pin again. If that shows 1 then the short was in the antenna mount.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

cb-en thread to anntenna end thread : 0.01 (Continuity)
I take it you disconnected the cable from the mount to do this? If so, the next step is to look at the antenna mount to see what reading you get across the mount.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

re tested swr and get the same result - ref power up in the red around 4ish, and thats with a new aerial
also connected battery jump lead from mount (where it bolts to rack) to -ve on battery to be sure of an earthDuncan

News update: Dunc now has a good circuit to the antenna, but the SWR meter is bouncing around all over the place, giving different readings depending on how close your hand is to the meter! He's off to try and get his hands on another SWR meter I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
Be sure the one being used is rated for 27Mhz. Our one at work has a number of switch settings dependant on the frequency being tested (HF/VHF/UHF etc).
Dunc - I only hope that the end result is worth all the effort......... The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

did some tests with the help of NoDo$h and looks like it might be the swr meter. there are no switches on it JMC other than the FWD / REF switch. Going to see if I can borrow/buy another and check. Man on motorway was closed so I'll have to try again tomorrow.
Ive only bought the CB in case everyone I need to talk to on Croisiere does'nt have a PMR
It WILL be worth it
Given up on CB for the day, need to get on with other jobs like finding my winter cloths, ready for Croisiere and to fit an outo-jet-boil mount so i can just pull a lever on the dash and the jet-boil will fill with water, ignite and boil. Havnt worked out how to pour it out and pass the cup to the drivers seat yet I may have to use manual overideDuncan

PMR = Private Mobile Radio
Term generally to cover a whole load of two way radio, such as radios in taxi's, security guards radios, etc.
