Thanks for the tips, they are all always appreciated! Even though some might prove to not be fitting for my problem, they help a lot in finding a viable approach to this issue! Thumbs Up

Did it fail TUV on actual exhaust measurements or because the the flexible pipe was leaking?

You are absolutely right, they stated, it would fail our TÜV-equivalent because of the very rusty pipe and they were concerned, it might leak hot exhaust gases in the next few months which in turn might start a fire.

They caught this issue while fixing a leaking seal on the throttle body.

de-cat

Removing a previous installed cat also is an instant §57a (our MOT/TÜV)-failure an will be detected, unfortunately. I have thought about de-catting, obviously. As I need a new 57a (MOT/TÜV) first, it does not work for me for the time being (despite being 'problematic' on its own anyway).

But: In addition to all the things mentioned earlier, I will take another look under the car by myself on the weekend, since I glanced at the downpipe from the left-hand wheel arch (by accident tbh) and did not find it particularly rusty.

I will keep you informed.

hi there,

anything new?

I have the exact same issue but my pipe is already leaking, workshop recommends not to use the car anymore.

I cannot find an affordable catalytic converter with the two sensor points (before and after converter) for my 2008 HSE with DPF.

anybody any good idea?

Thanks anyway and greetings from Hamburg, Germany

Couldn’t the sensor points be removed(cut out) and welded or brazed into a good used cat?
Scrap cats appear to be valuable to some people, might just help lower the cost.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi Jan!

I have also sent an e-mail to GTC parts a week ago - so far no reply at all.

I have had a chat with my garage (official LR partner and dealer but true offroad specialists).
They are absolutely willing to weld a new tube to my old cat.

There is a little chance that the cat might be damaged or molten (happened twice before on another vehicle towed to their shop) in which case a replacement cat would be necessary anyway. They would like to avoid the 'cat-out-but-gone-without-replacement-cat-on-hand' scenario but with delivery delays of 4-8 weeks due to brexit, the chop-and-weld-solution seems likelier every day. They might also have a used but usable cat available.

I will leave my Disco 3 with them this week and keep you posted.

@ruegenwalder: please keep us updated as well!

Quick update:

The Disco is fixed (but showed a merry christmas tree of faults only a week after due to low voltage....).

Since the catalytic converter had not been shipped by LR from the UK to Austria for more than 6 weeks (sic!), my mechanic decided to weld in a new downpipe.

Seems to work fine.
