Back Bumper - Cover Plate?
Hi - this is probably a stupid / paranoid question but here goes...
My D3 was in today having the rear PDC fixed - seems the wiring loom needed replacing which necessitated the rear bumper being taken off.
When I parked on my drive after picking it up, I looked at the back and thought something didn't look right so.... should there be a cover over the area highlighted in the pic below? If not, what is this bracket used for?
I don't think the red insert serves any other purpose than to keep muck from getting into the towbar fitting. Probably not much of a problem around town... but don't take it down any jam butty mines!!! As you slide down the banister of life

Do these thing 'fall out all the time' like my dealer said. Mine was there when I went to look at my car, but has since disappeared (I think nicked!) Dealer did say he would get one for me next time I was there, (probably off someone elses car!)
I lost mine some time ago so got a new one from the stealer - only cost a couple of quid if I remember rightly and does keep the out of the socket. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills
I was lucky and found mine about to fall out... I pushed it back in, but check it's held fast each time I wash the car now.As you slide down the banister of life

What towbar fits into there? Is there a removable one that just slides into that socket? I've never looked under the red cover and always assumed that getting a towbar would necessitate a substantial install and leave me with a plow in the rear... Is there something that I can just put in and take out as needed??

Yep Hernan, it's for the removable towbar.
Dead easy to fit/remove.
Just clicks in and out.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
The towbar just fits into the socket, but the expensive bit is the electrics for trailer/caravan lights etc.As you slide down the banister of life

The red insert does have a sort of integral spring clip in the moulding, which is supposed to "click" in (forwards) into the socket. Mine needed attention from sharp knife before it would click, and still needs a good push IN.2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
