Automatic Transmission service

Special Service
We offer a very specialized service that is probably unique:
There have been many discussions on this forum regarding `flushing` Automatic transmissions, we reckon to have the answer to this. It is called a Megaflush system and is an American system that we imported several years ago. How does it work? What does it do?
Well first, it works by linking in to the vehicles transmission cooler circuit via special connections.
Second it then changes over 97% of the transmission fluid without allowing the old fluid to mix with the new! A type of `dialysis` best describes the operation. This means that the fluid is changed properly and without contamination. The performance and life of the transmission is enhanced. This method changes about 14 litres of fluid, which as anyone who has just drained and changed the fluid via the sump will know is about 4 times that amount!
Currently Land Rover charge about £20 + VAT per litre for the fluid thus making this type of service prohibitive, however we have now sourced the correct fluid from another supplier.
We can offer Disco3.co.uk members the service for just £190 + VAT!

Hi,
Owing to the size of the servicing machine this is only available as a workshop service. We do not change the filter, the scenario is that this service is non-invasive.

Hi 4-Tech

Sounds interesting. Do you have any experience of the effectiveness of this in order to cure the auto gearbox judder. Our 70k mile HSE has developed a judder on acceleration (seems to be the same symptoms as others have described and cured by the other method you described).

After talking to various dealers the cost is eye watering at best. that said, clearly if i went for an alternative method I’d want to be confident that it would cure the problem (providing the problem was due to this issue)

Additionally if you feel it would resolve the issue what's the lead time to book in, how long does the process take and where in Cambridge are you ?

Many thanks - Mark

Hi Mark,

We have been servicing transmissions using this system for about 5 years. During that period we have found it works well and invariably the transmission feels distinctly better afterwards. Many times we have had vehicle bought in that would barely drive, one service and they are good again for many miles.
Due to the price of the fluid we have only just begun offering it on the D3, however, we run two ourselves an both were serviced a fortnight ago. Both have covered 68k or so, one was exhibiting no real problems and the other had a real `bang` on kickdown. Both feel distinctly better and the kickdown problem has completely disappeared!
The judder you speak of is a common problem and I would fully expect it to disappear following service.

Would this kind of service cure a bang when pulling off at a junction. Mine has an issue where if you trickle up to the line without stopping and then go for a gap it snatches 1st gear with an almighty bang through the driveline. I had the newer map applied to the gearbox ECU which seemed to improve things but it's still there, just not as bad.

Thanks

Dom

Dom,

The symptom you describe is a fairly well documented problem with the D3. It happens in both the TDV6 and V8. In usual fashion LR deny any issues but in real life most owners notice it.
Our service will not cure this per se but, because the transmission will have new fluid the effects may well be reduced. The new fluid will help the valves in the transmission making them less likely to `stick`.

About how long should it take to service the transmission?
