Will be contacting A-Plan next summer when mine is due.

I have been with LV with my D2 for years & always very competitive. However, on buying a D3 in September, LV suddenly decided to double the premium as, and I quote, “despite being an experienced driver with full no claims, over 50 and in a relatively low risk area , the Discovery 3 is a must more powerful car and you are a higher risk in it”.

I was speechless but over a barrel until renewal time.

However, on a plus side, LV halved the cost of the house insurance!
 Cheers,

Jez

Just a word of warning, some of the comparison websites are either owned or have significant shareholding in them by some of the insurance companies.
That's why the same company will come in lower on a comparison site but not another.

A Plan for 3 years now. Always compared their renewal and its always competitive.

They appear a lot more thorough when setting up the policy too.

Here we are another year on from the OP.

House insurance (via Lloyds bank) comes through and it's gone up by 15.2%, no claim, no changes, etc. Bit of my usual annual rant by me to SWMBO.

I can get cheaper by shopping online but have to admit they give the best cover for some expensive jewellery and my watch collection that other companies, even 'specialists' have come no where near to matching. Still Censored me off that I have to ring them to "get the best price possible".

The now 'new normal' "we are ever so sorry but because of covid-19 we can give you a Censored service and cut staff costs but your call is important to us" malarkey that had me holding on for 35 minutes.

Once through they immediately go "oh yes, that's just a generic quote, we can beat that". So why the hell don't they quote that to start with...... Evil or Very Mad

five minutes later and its gone down 22% so is now cheaper than last year, which in turn is cheaper than the year before Shocked I don't think I have ever stayed with one company for a third year in a row....

Then, next day the car insurance drops on the mat and I'm thinking "and here we go again". Pleasantly surprised to see the premium has gone down by 18% Shocked (and I'm already in that '9+' years NCB bracket they use).

So, still Censored at the bank and the games they play but I'd say that isn't too bad a result on the insurance this time round Thumbs Up

Just out of interest - have you ever tried us for home insurance?

We do cover for high value specified items too - with an average call wait time to get through to us of just 20 seconds Mr. Green

Thumbs Up

I've been with MoreThan for over 5yrs. Household renewal came in at £178. Up 20% on the previous year. Quick check online shows MoreThan one of the cheapest so I didn't bother renewing and took out a new policy with them for the same cover at £122 with a £25 cash back direct with them. No T&C. Welcome (back) to MoreThan.......

I obtained a quote for a KTM690 at the weekend. £350 with a £1200 excess for a limited mileage policy. Sadly due to a few years off the bike I've again lost my max NCB Big Cry

I'll have to wait until electric scooters become legal.

Lockdown is good!

Sorry, but all I can think of is the little car stealing scrotes must have been observing lockdown this year.
Had my car insurance renewal through for the D3, last year was £379, this year has gone down (yes DOWN not a typo) to £330!
Did a quick search with the happy mearcats and getting quotes for an average £240!!!

And the 1/2 price pizza deal should easily cover the £240 for the year so my insurance is FREE this year (sort of)

Mine too has gone down ... and a very surprising amount.

Renewal was £580 including ~ £80 for European breakdown.

Meerkat and similar offered prices around the £300 mark. in previous years, my old lot (which is ex-ICI internal insurance firm) have always been within £30 of comparisons sites and offer many extras for free.

spoke to old lot and whilst they admitted they couldn't get anywhere near that, warned of a couple of issues with comparison site numbers suddenly going up when you progress into the process (they named names but I won't repeat as it's clearly 3rd hand info).

Anyway, just for a laugh I tried Direct Line. Result = £300 !!!

only marginally offset by biting the bullet and getting NSF wheel bearing booked in at garage ... but I'm still better than £100 in pocket. Smile

Moving from an eight year old D4 to a brand new XC90 reduced my premium by £650 Shocked Very Happy

Slightly at a tangent, but relevant. Do people accurately look at their contents and the cost of replacement and reflect that in the sum insured or do they just go with a generic 'typical' value offered by the insurer?

I've just redone my household policy. Lloyds offered the best deal for the value of contents, special items and my bikes but they pushed me to be accurate in my contents value.

It was scary totting things up and looking at replacement costs. I got spooked by hearing of someone recently who was underinsured and only got a fraction of the cost to replace things after a fire.

When I added things up, something I've never really done accurately, I realised that I needed a lot more than the standard £75,000 most insurers offer.

Heres an example of how quickly things add up:

4 iMacs under 2 years old: £6800
4 Macbooks incl 2 Pros: £7000
4 iPads incl 2 Pros £2300
4 iPhones £2800
1 PC laptop £500
Ancillary items like printers, iWatches, headphones, cameras, TVs, Bluetooth speakers, hifi, record deck, GoPros, etc etc. £14000

I accept this might be an excessive electronics list, but many will have a lot of similar stuff and probably haven't realised how much they have and what the cost of replacement would be.

Add in clothes, shoes, bedding, curtains, kitchen equipment, books, records, furniture, lamps, art, garage tools etc., sports equipment (adding up our bikes replacement cost came to £22000 Shocked Big Cry ) etc, etc and it quickly adds up.

It really did surprise me what it would cost to start again if the worst happened. I was defiantly underinsured and non of the online sites could provide me with the cover I needed.

Also, sorry APlan, but I had to move from you to get the cover I needed at a sensible price. You did try hard though and provided great service as always. Thumbs Up

Wow, hardware, that’s a good drop! I went ahead and paid, and cost stayed the same, I even added the protected no claims this year as hell, I can afford it Smile
I’ve got 11 years NC and still griping Over loosing another 6 years NC because I moved over to company car at the time, and “apparently” if you haven’t insured a personal car Yourself for 3 years, any previous NC doesn’t count, despite the fact I could prove no accidents on the company car, and my mileage on it was very high.
