Just some helpful advice for those looking to buy a 2005 D3.

In 2005, the Land Rover factory sent out a number of Base 7 Seater models with "S" badges on the tailgate, instead of no model badge.

This has lead to confusion on the second hand market as a number of these D3s are being advertised and sold as being "S" models when they are not.

The easiest way to identify a genuine "S" is from the additional equipment over the Base 7 Seater

Differences in equipment

An "S" has as standard from the factory, over and above the Base 7 Seater:

  • 18" alloy wheels
  • Rear PDC
  • Cruise Control
  • Xenon Headlights (2005 model year)
  • Headlamp washer jets
  • Front and rear mudflaps
  • Cold climate pack:
    • Heated front screen
    • Heated front and row 2 seats
    • Heated washer jets
  • Hi-ICE pack:
    • Hi-line in-dash 6 CD changer head unit
    • 8 speaker Harman Kardon audio
    • Steering wheel audio controls
  • Bright pack (2006 model year):
    • Front fog lamps
    • Auto dimming (electrochromatic) rear view mirror
    • Automatic headlights
    • Rain sensing wipers
    • Puddle and footwell lights

Although some of these were available as factory fitted options on a Base 7 Seater or can be retrofitted or added as accessories, the main pointer to identify a Base 7 Seater is the audio system which is fitted.

The Hi-line head unit could not be specified as an option on the Base 7 Seater and is a very involved retrofit.
