The TDV6 engine is the 2.7 litre Land Rover variant of the Lion diesel engine family was developed and manufactured at Ford's Dagenham Diesel Centre for use in PSA (Peugeot Citroen) vehicles (as DT17), Jaguars (AJD-V6), and Land Rovers.
Launched in 2004 in the Discovery 3.
Construction
The engine utilizes a high-tech DOHC with 24 valves, single turbocharger with an air-to-air intercooler, and an innovative compacted graphite iron (CGI) block construction. It is equipped with high-pressure common rail direct injection.
The Land Rover version of the engine has a single turbocharger, of a larger capacity than the twin-turbo design used by PSA and Jaguar. This is to improve the engine's low-speed torque range for off-road and towing applications.
It is also fitted with a very large, engine driven cooling fan to support low speed, high load driving such as those that may be encountered in desert conditions.
