Yikes. Is £539 for my first 12m/15k service exhorbitant? |
|
Stratstone in Nottingham have just quoted me £539 inc VAT (yes, thats FIVE-THREE-NINE pounds) for my first service on my TDV6 Auto.
This sounds a lot to me. How much have other owners been paying? Anyone reasonably local doing it cheaper?
all the best

Thats extortion. I thought I was ripped off with £370 inc vat, and that included £85 for oil!
The 30k service cost me £470, that included £100 for rear brake pads.
I complained about the price of the oil, and they agreed to use Land Rover branded oils instead of posh Mobil or Castrol brands with huge mark up value. That saved me £50
Try a different dealer, get a breakdown of the costs.

Too right !!!
Call Shukers in Ludlow (01584 877231) or Shrewsbury.
I paid LR book price as far as I am aware (they looked it up on the computer at the reception desk) and that was waaay lower than that.
The fuel costs and a lovely day in a medieval market town will be more than worth it... and you could treat the misses to a slap up meal too

Thanks for all your support.
I phoned Stratstone Nottingham to double check my prices and challenge them a bit.
Apparently they have TWO levels of service:
PREMIUM service: where you get a 15k service PLUS a courtesy car if needed, a mini-valet, a body corrosion inspection, an engine treatment with something called Fortron (?) worth £40, plus treating/sanitising my air-con evaporator, plus a free litre of oil worth £9.99. Total cost £509 [they say I was overquoted first time round at £539. Whooopsie-doo!]
or...
CLUB service: where you get a 15k service. and none of the other stuff, Total cost is still a rather heavy £389.
I seem to remember them telling me before I spent nearly £35K with Stratstone that I could have free courtesy cars for when I had my car serviced.
Anyway, I phoned Sturgess Land Rover in Leicester and they quoted me £295 with a free courtesy car!
regards
Rob

Rob,
Sounds like a load of sales and marketing lead stuff to enable them to take more margin off the customer Shows that ringing around pays off eh !
Maybe there are too many well healed city folk buying cars from them
I get a free car, valet, cheery smile and decent conversation from Shukers.
She's in for her 30K mile pampering today with a couple little niggles so expect to see her later all shiny and happy

Quite surprising!
Here in Switzerland, the car is sold with a freeservice (3 years or 100'000 KM) that includes all the liquids (oil, brakes, powersteering), brakepads, wipers, etc.

Lets be honest, there is no such thing as a free lunch! Nobody gets 'Free' servicing - its built into the price of the car. Its even better for the dealers because they get paid for the servicing up front!
Our Mini has a thing called 'TLC' cost £100 to specify it as an option. Basically it is a 3 year servicing deal. Who's going to turn that down! (but the car did cost 18 grand)

Mine just done its 30K and is more in depth... £369.42
The corrosion check is part of the service schedule from LR and the engine flush too !

I think you will find the 'cheap' club service also supplies a courtesy car just not a D3 they have a few Focus's I know
Come on Turbochip give us a name!!!!
At least we might be able to use cheaper dealers as a lever when approaching local dealers, maybe just not a certain dealer in Nottingham who certainly seam to be in a league of their own! Zermatt silver 06 reg.
Gone but not forgotten !!!
