Yet another FBH thread - sorry

Sorry to start yet another thread on this.

Young Bodsy kindly fitted an Altox unit onto my FBH 2 years ago and is been great. Love it to bits

Now though, this winter I’m getting a fault on my FBH. Code 22. (Nothing to do with the Altox).

I have been researching in here. And believe it’s probably the hours of operation counter that needs to be reset as my vehicle is 2007 .. if this FBH is original. It’s probably done a few hours service.

As I understand it. I need some sort of interface cable. But here is where I’m stuck. What cable do I need and where do I get one. I don’t think I see it on the club site anymore..

How do I know what to get?

Steve

Didn't Martin say, in another thread, he had the bits back in stock? Try PM'ing him.

NCC, I thought I had read everything across all the threads on here about the FBH, but the operation counter issue is a new one to me! If you can find a link to that thread, please post it! I'm away from home for a couple of days, without the laptop that I use for the Webasto software, so I'm afraid I can't investigate whether resetting the counter is an option.

Mine runs really well on the test software but won't run when commanded by the car itself. I fired it up on the test software at the weekend but had to pull the fuse to get it to stop - with the FBH coolant at 94C and the engine coolant at 91C, I was starting to get worried! Smile Learning point was: don't use the software to start it up then disconnect the laptop before shutting it down - if you switch it on manually, it needs the manual instruction to switch it back off! Rolling Eyes I've since found that it seems to shut off with a FBH coolant temp of 95C, which is way higher than I expected. I had naively expected it to cut-out when the engine coolant temperature reached 70C, or at least when I switched off the engine!

Code 22 is “reference resistance” error, not hours worked.

Hi

This is the thread i was reading - might have been sipping too much beer......

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/fault-code-...ght=22+FBH

Martin - I have found a VAG com cable in my garage - which looks like it may still work.

Do you have any looms for me please?

You don't know if you have >800 hours though... yet

If the VAG com cable is the basic one, then it'll work.

I'll have a look and see if I have a cable Thumbs Up

Thanks. I was looking it the Altox app. And it shows engine use at 598 hours. Against a milage of 127,000. Which I work out as an average speed of 220ish mph ! So that’s not a correct read Smile. And at an average of 40mph I believe that is 3,175 hours So it’s plausible it’s reached 800 hours on the fbh. Smile

Thanks for that link - I had indeed read it once before, but disregarded it since I was pretty sure that my FBH was actually ok. But thinking about it again, it might well explain the reason why it can start on the Webasto test software and on the IID, but not from the car's instructions. I'm not seeing an error code on the WTT software, though... Confused Not sure if I am brave enough to attempt the fix! Smile

Edit: Still thinking aloud on this. I need to check the hours on mine, but surely if the hours were exceeded, it wouldn't run through the start process at all? Mine switches the circulation pump on, then the glow plug, then shows the fuel pump on, then shuts fuel pump off at 10s, then the glow plug. Circulation pump remains running, then after a minute or two it runs through, the glow plug on, fuel pump on cycle for the second restart time, before shutting down in sequence again, this time putting the circulation pump back off and recording the "No start after restart" error on the IID. If I run the prime function on IID, it burns off the primed fuel, but still shuts the fuel pump off at 10s. With the WTT it burns clean, hot and long, so I am pretty sure that all the components are working well.

Honestly wish I knew. Don’t think my Gap tool shows any issues with the fbh. But I get error 22 from the remote start… (I don’t know how to start it without the Altox system…).

Hoping getting the WTT software connected will tell me something.

It is worth watching the live values on the GAP Tool during start-up. I find that Glow plug status, Fuel pump status, circulation pump, FBH coolant temperature (from the FBH menu) and engine coolant temperature (from the engine menu) give a good indication of what is going on. If you simply watch these during initial start-up on a cold morning and then try that again with the Altox, you might be able to see at what point the FBH is not responding when simply commanded on start-up.

Couldn't see the live values, howevrer - i did a test from the IID tool and teh FBH stared up fone , load of smoke, all looks good - flicked into the Altox app and saw the burner switch to flame ON.

so that looks ok

Sounds like you are in the same boat as me, then. Works fine on an over-ride command but not in normal start-up operation. I suspect you may be onto something with the Operating hours reset.

I'll be back home on Wednesday and will see if I can get time to delve into the Webasto software again to assess whether I am brave enough to modify the hours figure.

Edit: Having read and re-read Spiderlane's description, I am now more confident that I will be able to calculate and (hopefully) find the correct figures on the WTT data, rather than blindly assuming that the locations to be edited are the exact same.
