Yet another A-Bar question
Afternoon Chaps.
Righto, having won my fantiasidobi A-Bar from ebay (And a "free" Bumper), Guess what, NO BLOODY METAL BRACKETS.
I've got two plastic brackets and a bag full of nuts, bolts and plastic covers which all seem to be OK but reading through 387 pages of previous threads I see I need these metal bracket things? ggrrr
Now, I DID ASK the fella (from an independant LR garage no less) if the metal brackets were available and he replied that it didn't need them as the bar was bolted directly to the metal bumber behind the plastic...
So, was he talking or not?
Questions then...di I really need them? did anyone ever get any brackets made? if not, any idea's how I can get hold of some? make some? steal some? borrow some? etc etc?
I know a few blokes that are a bit handy with making things, so potentially may be able to get a few made up for future use.
Secondly, is there such a thing as a wiring loom available for the LR spots? I have the lights and the wiring behind them which terminates in a connecter of some kind?
Presumably I need some wiring to connect into somewhere and some kind of switch?
Will be a the Fairmile on Tuesday if anyone can assist?
Ta

Yes you DO need the brackets
Have a search on here - the manufacturer was tracked down as I recall and there was some communication in respect of supplying the metal brackets separately.
The loom can be sustituted with 'standard spot wiring' hooked off the mainbeam - but you won't get the standard LR switch.
Can't recall if the loom/switch can be got separately - PM TheLargeOneSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Cheers SN.
Just looking at the instructions on fitting the a-bar and the bolts that I have look nothing like those in these.
They look like M6, about 75mm long and have black plastic sleeves that go round them.
Perhaps I have got the earlier version?

Gary
these are the guys who make the D3 a bar for Land Rover
contact them direct and they should be able to offer you a fitting kit
Land Rovers fitting kit is missing the metal brackets(due to cost ) so unable to get then for you...

£65 or thereabouts for the fitting kit. If the Part number begins with VUB they may say that they haven't got it, but persevere and they may relent. If the part number begins with LR, it's the new design and is fitted in a different fashion ( to obey the EU regs) and apparently doesn't need the brackets. The bolts you have are from the old kit. As TLO says, Endura are the suppliers.

Would it have been as amusing if you'd have purchased it?Welcome "Lola"

I dont think its funny, not at all, but most of the time these items on ebay are faulty, parts missing, and I usually get caught out, lucky miss for me. I've been watching several roof bar listings, the price gets so high, so bought direct..............try Barry at Barretts of Ashford, does a better deal, compared with Yeovil, Barretts won hands down

Love it.
Well, lesson learnt. The fella (a bloke from a non franchise LR garage) is going to get me the brackets and if not, he'll refund me so although a major PITA it's not the end of the world.Welcome "Lola"

Well my A bar is still sat on the driveway, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, I have now secured some brackets.
At long last I have achieved a resolution to my dilema. I contacted the OEM of the A Bar, Concept Mouldings and after some persausion have eventually got them to construct a new package of materials, which includes the metal fixing brackets. It is £30+ more than the original fixings package, but at least we can now get the full package.
The details of the supplier and the part no. are as follows:
I hope this is of some help. I haven't yet had a chance to instal but will hopefully find some time over this coming weekend.
Good Luck

The fella came good and I received my brackets this morning
Have measured them with a battered old scale rule and popped a CAD drawing in my gallery if anyone is interested.
Been a long time since I've done any engineering type drawings so apologies if it's rubbish, but sort of looks ok to me
