Xenon Upgrades

I recently bought a 07 plate D3 SE which doesn't have Xenon headlights. I have tinted the windows and now wonder how best to give my disco the Xenon headlight look.
There seem to be plenty of bulbs claiming to be Xenon but i am not so sure if they'd give it the look i want.
Does anyone know of any better upgrades and possible costs, or will the Xenon bulbs do the job.

Send a PM to The Large One - aka Nick at Yeovil.

You can swap out your halogens for Xenons if you've got 20 minutes and a few hundred(s) of £'s Thumbs Up

Assuming your car has halogen H4 headlight bulbs then I´m not sure what "the look" is you are after, mucho powerful, very white headlights with a sharp cutoff are a hallmark of xenon headlights, to upgrade to these the headlight units need changing for xenon headlights as the bulbs, lenses and dipping mechanism are all totally different to the halogen lights.

...or you could fit xenon bulbs and join the XR3i lookalike crowd Shocked

There are better, whiter, brighter H4 bulbs available, I fitted sets of (I think) Philips bulbs to both my D2 and daughter´s Freely1 and the better light, although not xenon headlight quality, was noticably better then the original bulbs.

The proper xenon lights are hundreds of pounds more than "xenon" H4 bulbs for a reason, you get what you pay for IMHO....good luck!

The only way to get proper Xenons is to buy the actual headlights, not cheap though they do come up on ebay from time to time, or talk to Nick @ Yeovil
Auto Express had a review of replacement lamps (bulbs) this week that is worth looking at if you're after more light rather then just the Xenon 'look'

I think the 'look' he wants is to get rid of these...:

And replace them with these:

Hmmm - I know the physical differences but how they look off misses the point I think??? How they function on is the reason to upgrade/order them...nd no H4 halogen bulb in the world will look anything like the xenon units.... Sad

simonsi, you got it spot on, the Xenon units look alot better but seein other D3s with the Xenon units tend to stand out from the crowd at night, might try some bulbs, or just put up with the units i got! unless i can find a pair down the scrap yard!

Cheers for the help guys!

So is it for actually being able to see further and safer down the road, or for 'The Look' ?

Skep , this thread might be of help if you aren't going to fork out for the Xenon Headlamps.

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic15707.h...ords+bulbs

I've seen the Halfords own brand + 30% white bulbs ( on a 2 for 1 offer at the mo over here)and there is a big enough difference ( RIB ON is currently using them).

Before I managed to source a set of Xenons a while back I swapped my dip beam halogen 55 w bulbs for a set of 80 w and the difference is very noticeable ( not while but very bright).

It was established also that it is not illegal to use 80 w bulbs Whistle
