Xenon HID conversion kits.

Has anyone out there ever fitted a Xenon HID conversion kit like this one:

or this one:

to 'upgrade' the standard halogens on their Disco? Is anyone thinking about doing so?

I live in the countryside and almost all of my winter driving on on high beam and I was wondering if I should go Xenon, add some auxiliary driving lights or just stay with the standard gear.

Thoughts?

Use the search facility, as several members have fitted xenon lights from higher spec. D3's. Either buying from ebay or from a dealer (20% from Nick at Yeovil Land Rover).

Yep, Iv'e fitted a kit to my Audi TT and my VW Crafter van.
They are really easy to fit and produce a good level of light.
However, you need to be aware of a couple of legal issues. The lights need to self level and you need to have headlamp washers.
In my case, my Audi looks convincing because it has projector lights and the painted covers where the washers would be housed. The VW has standard Halogen headlights but does have headlamp washers. In both cases I can adjust the height of the light beam from inside.

Cheers, alan

You also need to have the correct lenses or technically they are illegal. It's not just the washers and self levellers, it has to have the correct E marking for the lense. Any conversion kit from halogen to xenon is illegal as you are not changing the lenses.

All this came from Auto Express article.

Swapping to the Land Rover xenon lights is fine of course.

For main beam I can recommend the Philips xtreme power +80% H7 lamps. I've go the xenons and they are awesome, but the addition of these in the mainbeam projector has turned them into weapons of dark destruction. At the last SE meet we compared my xenons with xtreme H7 main beam with xenons, standard H7s and LR driving lamps and my setup was brighter with a longer beam throw. Thumbs Up
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thanks. It seems like a bit of a minefield fitting after market Xenon conversios so I think I'll stay clear for the time being. Actualy for the cost of some of these conversions, I could probably fit a nice pair of auxilliary driving lights - food for thought.

Cheers,

Ed.

Laughing

If you still have standard main beam lamps then technically yes, as anything that increases the output of any of your lamps is increasing the overall light output. It's just that you wouldn't actually be able to see the difference through the all-enveloping beam emitted by your roof-mounted death rays. 8)
