The steering wheel is easy to change for a new smooth leather one (ask TLO)
What sort of knock from the front and under what circumatances? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

There was also an issue with the steering which caused a noise over uneven surfaces. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The noise is a little bit like a rattle and a knock. That sound silly I know but it seems to be quick like a rattle but as loud as a knock. Sounds like it could be Anti roll bar bush. its a smooth ride until you are on uneven ground then it can be heard. sounds like front near side more so.
Ive read a lot of threads on the ARB bush's, think I may try putting them on 1st see if it cures it.

Welcome - suspect knocking is down to track rod ends / ball joints wear - common fault
I had mine replaced at c. 75K

Doppelganger or what.
Bought mine 2 weeks ago, cannot believe the difference between it and the 300tdi disco it replaced. Even seems to be better than the old 3500 RR V8 when it comes to pulling power.
Had convinced myself to wait until D4 was shipping in numbers prior to buying but the salutory experience of a day at Blackbushe (try to imagine a more boring way to spend the day than at a car auction if you're only buying 1 car - then imagine going there with the wife...... ) couplesd with some autotrader surfing and a bit of haggling led me astray.
Dealer sold me it with a bundled warranty that looks naff, will be going to tesco when that runs out in ten weeks time (its the old double jeapordy get out - never insure twice!). Warranty direct apparently think they're financing it rather than warrantying it (should I be worried??)
Money well spent, good investment? Don't know, great car though! 06 Discovery 3 HSE
95 Discovery 1 tdi300 Gone but not forgotten
89 Range Rover 3500 V8 Ditto
Addictive blighters these Landrovers....Thought I had the bug bad - obviously just a beginner.
