The app is neither here nor there if your system has been compromised it will say whatever the hacker says it will say! The issue to me would be how many cars have to be attacked for a manufacturer to patch the problem? The insurance company offering LR extended warranty say the engine issue is a design fault so don’t cover it yet LR seems to have done nothing to the design, would the same apply to a software issue? I guess it’s an issue that many companies are going to have to face and let’s face it all cars soon enough will be potentially vulnerable, are we going to stop buying cars?

I do believe they've been working on security with some vigor, you can't take a 2018MY D5\RRS\FFRR by the latest key signal boosting methods for example ...and I know that when they are introduced into LRs the OTA downloads will be fully authenticated, encrypted and the telematics system fully shielded. The firmware OTA's only relate to infotainment and telematics so control of other critical components is unlikely.

Vulnerabilities may be exposed of course but like Apple\Android\MS they should be able resolve with patches.....but ultimately if someone tries hard enough they no doubt will ...via a byte or a brick.

That’s it exactly, there will be vulnerabilities it will come down to how it is dealt with and that applies to all makes.

I won’t lose sleep over it.

If they can hack LRs software then JLR should employ them because LR don’t have a clue.

The text message facility no longer works on my Velar, so hackers, please, if you can get a text message to my car, please be so kind and inform LR how it’s done.
