How worried should I be......

D3 went into the stealers yesterday to have the steering rack replaced due to a knock in the steering, no major drama.
Got a call just before 5 asking if they could have the car overnight as there were "issues" Shocked
Many calls later, they finally agreed to a loner (chrysler voyager Crying or Very sad ) to ferry myself, wife and 4 kids about in.
when I picked it up at about 6ish (and baby seat from D3), they informed me that not only was the new rack worse than the existing one (apparently to the point of being a safety issue Shocked ), but they were having, in their words "major dramas" with the ECU. has apparently lost all its programming and the car is now dead in the water, so to speak.
Has anyone had anything similar??!? Does anyone know if they can get it back up and running, will it be the same or is there the potential for more ECU issues down the track? Up untill it went in, the car itself has had no issues and not missed a beat Sad .
Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome.

Cheers Very Happy . I'm actually quite sure it's something they've done as they're being rather cagey about whats exactly wrong.......but I'm Censored if I can work out what it would be Shocked . Fail to see how changing the steering rack could impact on the ECU Confused

If you have adaptive lights they use a sensor in the steering which is also used for the wheel directions shown in the screen. Maybe they did something to this sensor? Just a thought.
At least you have a loaner.

I've also read on this forum that the D3 must have sufficient power during the uploading of the ECU with software patches to prevent corruption of the ECU which might mean "dead" D3.

Whatever has happend sounds like mechanic inflicted.

I agree Chris... sounds like corrupted eeprom to me... and if Gethro's D3 is a new one, they may not have the correct ECU in Australia... shipping from UK - expect a 2 week wait! Twisted Evil

Good luck Gethro!

Thanks all for your responses Thumbs Up . Seems as though CaverD3 and PCH, you were both right Bow down . One extra thing though that made me chuckle, as they hadn't updated/reloaded the sensor in the steering (yes I do have the adaptive h/lights), when the mechanic took it for the inital test drive, it was causing the HDC to engage everytime he went round a corner Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter . You'd think a LR mech would know what HDC is, but apparently not......poor Censored thought the world was coming to an end Rolling with laughter . Once agin, thanks for your input....panic over now Whistle
