Worn ARB's, what are the consequences? |
|
Both my front and back ARB are worn resulting in the obvious klung and klang sounds.
Lately I notice getting more noise from the wheels when I corner. Especially left hand corners give increased noise levels. Might this be another side effect of worn ARB?
The car rolling over to much giving more pressure on the wheels resulting in more noise? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Could be related, but knowing the disco 3 it could a whole host of other areas. Worn arm bushes, ball joints, wheel bearings, steering rack, track rod ball joint etc etc. Begs the question why not replace / fit the ARB bush packers to see if the noise goes away?

I am having the same thoughts Renton.
Ours is going back to the dealer as I told them about the clonks before we bought it 2 months ago.
My initial thought was ARB bushes but am now wondering if it is more eg the arm bushes.
Is there an easy way to tell if if it the ARB's or the wishbone bushes or will they take the easy route first, hand it back saying there all done and then 4 visits later eventually get the wishbones done?

Get underneath the back end and see if you can move the ARB up and down, or side to side.
JAck up each wheel. Hold it top and bottom (12 & 6 oclock) and shake it, then side to side (3 & 9) And play in bushes and/or track rods etc should be fairly evident to see
While the front wheels are jacked up, get a lever between the ground and the bottom of the tyre and lift the bar. Any play in the lower ball joints will be felt through the wheel and if its really you will hear it clunking away My D3 Build Thread

Excellent info, thanks Disco_Mikey, could you give some pointers on how to check the front as well for wear on suspension bushes, ball joints, ARB spacers etc. please?
