The results were the same as it was the same test. It did also say that if the Defender had better wading depth better turning circle and also better hill desent control it would have won so I guess that will be the "New" Defender then, I wonder how long it will take for that one to be accepted

The oldies will be up in arms for years !
And yes agreed, the machine is just a hunk of metal and plastic bits without a good driver. But the D3 will help an average driver keep going... oh and go further than they should too of course
Sometimes getting stuck and having to use their winch on each off road foray

Last year they did the test and made the Santana the winner, 90 2nd and D3 3rd. However, the cars could have MTRs fitted which the Santana had but no LR products did. They also only judged each test until a wheel was raised off the ground, which didn't really do the D3 any favours. The year before that when the old Grand Cherokee won they used the 90 as the vehicle to measure the others against!
I agree with Penguin, it is the person behind the wheel that makes the biggest difference. But I guess the best car won!!!DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
DS3 TDV6 HSE- Silver with Alpaca (new one) Gone
D4 HSE Lux - Montalcino Red Gone

Sorry to say, but the BEST off-roader, is the guy driving the 4x4, not directly the car
The performance of any mechanical device is only as good as the proficiency of the human interaction in design, production or use. It should be remembered that, in this particular case, one cannot perform the function without the other.
The importance in respect of this test is not how good the driver is but that his performance is the same when driving each vehicle. Quite frankly he can be crap......... as long as he is consistantly crap
Therefore the result should still be entirely relevant and it doesn't matter whether he was an off-road god or a complete numpty....we are only concerned with the performance of the machine......and to that end, the D3 is KING21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Especially got LRW for this one
I agree that the test is maybe not a very good one and possibly subjective, but hey I'm subjective too as the D3 won and I like that
