Only working key is dead!
Hi all, The only working key I have is dead. If I try to start the disco the alarm goes off and engine doesn’t even crank. I have had a key guy out and he tested key and said it’s dead. He tried to program a new one but couldn’t. Is it possible to get a key programmed without a working key or is it a trip to Land Rover?

If you have a 2nd key, maybe worth sending the 2nd one off to a repair place while you investigate other options.
or leave the 2nd key in the ignition barrell for 10 mins and then try and start it

I've just replaced the battery in my spare key, it's a bit awkward cutting into the case and needs a soldering iron but at £20 on eBay might be worth a shot?

Haven’t got a second key. I replaced the battery in my own key and it made no difference. So when the key guy tested it he said the transponder is dead so I take it from that that the key is scrap. So I really don’t know what to to do now.

You’ll need a new lock module fitting and two new keys programming, an expensive job that I think can only be done by a main agent, only time I’ve known it to be done was under warranty. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Surely it’s just new key & programmed by dealer? When I bought a new key 18 months ago I needed to bring in proof of ownership and programmed the key myself but no new modules needed.

We used to programme new keys to the trucks existing software, so long as the chip was virgin it was a 5 minute job.
