Won't insure my D4, unless tracker fitted ??? |
|
This is all new to me. Called my insurer up (LV) and they say they won't insure my car for theft or attempted theft, unless tracker is fitted..!
Anyone else heard of such a stipulation?
Secondly, what's considered a decent, cheap tracker?

This may become the norm if they continue to get pinched

Yes I had same reply from LV. Plenty of decent(?) insurers out there who do not need trackers.

Yes - happened to me albeit not on a D4
Had one fitted on the D4 anyway for some peace of mind and (allegedly) cheaper premium
ISTR recall the fitting & unit was about £200 and annual cost is about £130
I used Global Telemetrics - seems OK - I get calls when garage disconnects battery and when it was on the big yellow taxi being recovered home, got multiple calls that my car was being transported not under its own power - which made me smile as I was sat in the cab at the front at the time.

Not sure on where OP lives in Manchester, but my post code (SK*) in south Manchester is classified as high risk according to my broker mate

When I insured my FF the premium would have been around a third of the cost once a tracker had been declared. Fortunately, the FF comes with one. I suspect this will be the future for the D4, the FF and their kind 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!
(One of only two known to exist in the world!)

When I got my D4 it wasn't stipulated - but I thought spending £48K on a new car, it made sense.
Parts of South Manchester sadly have big problems with car theft - last month 2 neighbours had a 335 BMW & AMG C63 nicked (which I actually witnessed as I was walking the dog at 05.30 down the road) and house across the road was broken into in the summer looking for keys for his Merc (didn't get them)

On my MY2012 and MY2015 Churchill insisted that a tracker had to be fitted but when I got my MY2016 they said that didn't need a tracker Cheers Ian

Another vote for Direct Line.
Aplan wanted a tracker fitted and premiums very high even with it fitted. When you are dead, you do not know you are dead. All of the pain is felt by others. The same thing happens when you are stupid.

Another vote for Direct Line and my renewal premium with them actually went down a little this year.
Probably due to using there Telematics System and being a good boy!
