wish me luck with JLR warranty and heated windscreen
Switched on the heated front screen on the new to me D4 a few days ago, and half of the passenger side is dead, so went in today to the local stealership, to get it book in to get looked at.
the car is an approved used, so hopefully the warranty will cover the heated windscreen....
wish me luck...

The approved used warranty didn't used to cover glass and I'd be surprised if it does now. And I doubt the 165 items they check as part of the approved used scheme includes the functioning of the heated screens so they'll weasel out of it there too.
I think they'll have it for a day (or even two) and then tell you it isn't covered by the warranty and here's a bill for around £200 for "investigation work". That "work" will have been nothing more than writing up the bill. And then they'll suggest that you claim for a new screen on your car insurance.
Been there, done that.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Easy way to check if it’s covered, have a look through the T&Cs, paying particular attention to the Exclusions.

Maybe check if a hammer makes it start working and save the stealership diagnostic fee?
If it doesn’t……

The obvious route, the one no-one wants to suggest.

Hmmmm......Yeah reading thru the exclusions, it says more about what it dont cover, than what it does.
the below is taken from the warranty booklet.
Mechanical or Electrical Failure
Mechanical or electrical failure is the sudden and unexpected failure of a
component which is covered by the warranty and which requires immediate
repair or replacement. Wear and tear or normal deterioration is not covered
under the definition of mechanical or electrical failure.
Consequential Failure
Should a mechanical or electrical component (covered under the terms of this
warranty) fail and as a consequence cause failure to a factory-fitted mechanical or
electrical component on the vehicle which is not normally covered under the
terms of this warranty, we will pay the costs of repair or replacement of such
components at UK warranty rates for labour and parts.
Under the terms of this clause, we will not pay for consequential failure or
damage to glass, paintwork, bodywork, trim, upholstery, cosmetic finishes,
wheels, tyres, accessories and strikers and hinges.
but then also says
What your Approved Warranty Does Not Cover
– Bodywork, body seals, cosmetic finishes, glass, paintwork, trim, upholstery or
weather strips.
–
so, looking it from my point, its an electrical component, that has failed so should be covered, but I've no doubt they'll come out with, its glass and therefor not covered.
About as clear as mud!

“It’s glass, it ain’t covered. Simples.”
That’s the response you’re going to get, mainly coz it is glass.

As much as I hate to say it...I think you're right and thats what they're gonna say.
BUT..
like aja4x4 has said, its the electrical component inside the glass thats failed, its still on the original land rover windscreen.
I'll do a bit more digging before I cancel the booking

If you do go ahead it will be interesting to see how you get on but the LR Approved warranty peeps (which unless things changed is not LR) are not known for their sympathetic lateral thinking.

But, it could be argued, you can’t change the elements without changing the glass, which is specifically excluded. Aledgedly.
A good question would be, has anyone here been successful in claiming for a windscreen under these circumstances? This is a LR, virtually everything on it breaks regularly so someone, somewhere, with a LR Approved warranty, would have tried and posted the results here.

Got a bit of insider info earlier today, I forgot my daughters best pal was a warranty advisor at a JLR garage, so spoke to her earlier, she reckons, once they can prove an element has gone in the windscreen it WILL be covered by the approved used warranty...
so fingers crossed..

Well, the disco was in at Perth land rover today, and just had the call.
The car does need a new windscreen, and is covered under the warranty.
Picking her up in a wee bit, then it'll go back into her the screen fitted when it suits..
