Wiring of spot lights mounted on Expo Rack
Have just planned with my local stealer out here in Germany to mount x4 spots on the front of my expo rack after some excellent grovelling to SWMBO. My question to the font of all knowledge out there is that he is planning to run the cables through the GPS mouse dome thing on the roof, a, is this a good idea and b, can anyone foresee any problems later on with it POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

I think i have seen one of the setups. The wiring ran down the expo rack and then came in at the back and ran down the inside of the top boot lid and then up the length of the inside of the motor.POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Is he going to have a waterproof connector for that time when you need to take the rack off & you can then disconnect the lights without it having to go back into the dealer.....?Bodsys Brake Bible

He never mentioned anything about that but i will certainly speak to him about it, as it would be very handy as you have said for the times when i need to take the rack off. POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Nearly.... run the wiring down to the bumper then in behind the rear light cluster. You can mount a w/proof connector either behind the light cluster or in the 'gutter' adjacent to the tailgate

Ahh, is it possible to run a cable into the dome on the roof or is it not practical POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Anything is possible.... not something i'd do though - high likelyhood of water ingress through the cable grommet and capillary action through the loom

I think this needs a re-think by the stealer and myself, i think i will be giving him some suggestions the next time i am up there before i go firm with the plan. Many thanks for the info could save some grief later down the line. Pity i wasn't in UK where i could call upon the skills of fellow forum members to help me out on this.POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Mine comes down the A frame alongside the windscreen - having been very discreetly hidden under the last part of the roof rail - and thence into the engine compartment. Nothing visible at all and a very neat job done by Duckworths in Market Rasen. The only issue they had was that, eventually, they had to wire one pair of lights through one fuse and the other through another fuse - having tried to wire all 4 through one - which didn't work.I was taught to be cautious.
