Wintrac wear rate (lack of)
I am astounded by the lack of wear on my wintracs. I brought them new in Oct 2012 so they have done 7 winters, at around 4500 miles per winter (4700 over this last winter) so approx 31000 miles, and they still have 6mm tread on all 4.
Also this latest D4 doesnt seem to want to wear out front brake pads, just checked them as I've put my summer 21's back on today and front pads dont look half worn yet, with just shy of 32000 miles on them.
Happy days

I used to always run Wintrac 4 Xtreme's on my disco's... all sets averaged about 40,000 miles of hard use. I loved them.... but be careful when they start to get near the end... the performance in the wet falls off a cliff. Seems to go from great to terrible overnight - bit like Bambi on ice !!!

think you must be talking about the old tread pattern.
I have the newer one and the performance is terrible compared to the previous older style set i had on.
so much so that 2500 k damage was done to the rear when the disco slid back down a slope on our rd that has never been an issue with the old style which i used to have and our freelander II still does.

Indeed. I have between 4 and 5mm on mine and I've had to drive quite sensibly in the recent rain. Last winter for these babies I think.
I'll probably move on to Pirelli ATRs and not bother with separate winter tyres from now on.D1 300Tdi - gone
D2 Td5 ES (Alive remapped...mmm) - sadly gone

It's all down to a good driving style
Check the rear pads, they wear faster on D4's than the fronts. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Interested to know. With tyres lasting this long, does it come down to replacing regardless of wear?
They used to say about 6 years.
CheersGary

I've never heard of a tyre failing through reasonable age(15 years), trailer tyres that are stood in the hot sun may be different, of course tyre manufacturers and fitters will tell you to change at 6 years for profit.
Valves are more susceptible than tyres and I have experienced more than one failing at around 10 years. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,

SWMBOs Antara has just has new rears that were hardly worn but had cracks just outside the wheel rim and about 2cm further out. Car is a '62 plate so even if originals only 6 years old and under 30K miles.
