Winter wheels and tyres

Hello good people in land rover land, I'm considering getting a set of winter use wheels and tyres, so what's the best size to go for on the D4,on my D2 I ran 16inch with general grabbers so I'm happy with the tyre manufacturer, thoughts

Depending on you brake disks..... on D4 i think 18” is the smallest possible size..on standard brake disks

Think I can confirm on the wheel size of 18”. Iirc D4 has V8 brake size standard which, if chosen as an upgrade on d3, restricts you to 18" minimum.

I am running Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/65 r18 (though these rub so can only recommend a slightly smaller size) and very happy with their performance in all conditions, like super happy.

I've used them in the Alps on snow and ice and seemed to get on fine. My only gripe with them is they are quite a hard tyre after about 35k and this does show itself in the overall wide, though this seems to be the same for most AT tyres. They've done 60k miles and still loads of tread. Definitely a case of swapping before they're worn to keep the ride comfort

Isn’t D4, well 3.0 version anyway, 19” & upwards? Only 18”er aftermarket ones (forgotten the name) fit in that size, not LR ones.

Unless things have changed or I’m thinking alternate universe. Whistle

As DSL said.
D4 3.0l is minimum 19 inch unless you fit Compomotive aftermarkets which can be 18 inch

As above, 19” oe LR rims are the smallest you can fit on a 3.0 D4. 18” Compomotive PD1881’s fit, as do a couple of other aftermarket 18” rims. Tuffant (?) being one I think. Someone will be along soon to remind me what the other make is.

19” are great, but 18”s give a better ride quality. 20” rims only ever stayed on my Disco’s for as long as it took to drive home for the first time after collecting them. Whistle
