Loads of info on here I know chaps but...
Now that I have taken delivery of my new wheels & tyres, can anyone give me their advice/pros/cons of which tyre to shod my 18"s with for, ahem, "winter" use? 
(Where's the 'Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink' emoticon)?

Would this be  winter use in, for example, mud, sand and stony conditions?
Or snow   I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Yes I think it might be a particularly muddy/sandy winter this year!
Oh, and what about sidewall damage resistance?

Ran the wintrac 4 Extreme last winter, bloody amazing, have got them on a spare set of rims ready for this winter. 2 sets of rims is the way to go if you want the best of both worlds  D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

for 18" I'd recommend AT2's
They're useable day in day out, last quite well, don't cost too much, and seem to be suitable for, well, err... all terrains  Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

we've been very happy with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R SUV's - see www.nokiantyres.com; they have 'rim guard', and 'mud stopper' features.
The rim guards on my old car fitted with Nokian summer tyres have really helped to save the rims from kerbing. son of less tech-literate 2007 LRD3 owner (unmodified 'arctic frost' TDV6 HSE auto)
