I'm currently driving a Fiesta ST with Michelin Pilot Sport 4's, the lack of grip in sub zero conditions did get me thinking that my old D2 with which had some aggressive AT tyres would probably grip better than this does. We don't have long enough cold spells to make people see the value in fitting winter rubber but on this evidence there is a lot to be said for it.

There is an increasing number of true all-season tyres coming through now - sometimes called "winter-rated summer tyres". These work near enough as well as a summer tyre in the summer and nearly as well as a winter tyre in winter. No need to swap tyres anymore for most people.
Sure, in extremis the dedicated tyre will be better, but for most people's daily use - trips to the supermarket, work or the school run - a decent all-season tyre will be an excellent choice.
The issue, as ever, is that far too many people insist on putting cheap tyres on their cars. Never understood it, as the tyre is the only thing that gets you around that fast-approaching corner, or stops you from hitting that now-stationary car ahead. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Indeed. 
I have Michelin Cross Climate tyres on two of my cars, one is a front wheel drive the other rear. Brilliant all year round tyres. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
2010 D4 HSE (A bit bling)-GONE
2014 D4 HSE (Almost too bling)-GONE
2015 D4 HSE (A heated what?)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Written Off)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Surely the last!) PD1881 rims-GONE
