Winter Olympics and drugs
So, one of the 'clean Russians' has tested positive for drugs.
Makes a mockery of IOC stance about 'punishing all for the guilty few' when allowing sanctioned competitors back in
Begs the question for me though of what the benefit does a 'performance enhancing' drug do to the exponents of curling FFS

Maybe performance enhancing drugs help you let it go in time
It was a curling controversy that confused and divided opinion among viewers, and frustrated Great Britain's women's team as they lost in unusual circumstances to Sweden on Sunday.
With the game in an extra end, GB Skip Eve Muirhead was judged not to have let go before the hogline with her final stone, which meant it was void
You’ve got to wonder at the mentality of a Russian athlete taking drugs considering their current ‘reputation’. Absolutely guaranteed that you are going to get thoroughly tested if you win a medal.

I thought they tested all medalists automatically and did spot checks on everybody else.
Anyway, olympics is big business and shutting out a country size of Russia isn’t in IOCs best interests so they had to figure out a way to get athletes in even if the country was banned for very obvious reasons.

Wasn’t, there something a while back about snooker players and beta-blockers for steady shots. Maybe I imagined it at the time in a drunken stupor. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Right on snooker and beta blockers (same with dart players).
The drug involved here was Meldonium (Same as Sharaopva - the cheat - used). Something to do with making the body burn glucose instead of body fat which gives more energy output. Still don't see performance increase for curling........

Back in the day ‘Big Bill’ Werbeniuk used to drink about 6 pints before he played snooker and consume many more whilst playing, it was supposed to stop him shaking and improve his hand/eye coordination.
I struggle to make a break of 20 when I’m stone cold sober, I dread to think what I’d be like after a few beers Discovery 4 HSE

Amazing the amount of Elite sportsmen and women who test positive for Asthma drugs.
Chris Froome for one, how they can sustain the sort of exertion needed to compete at the top of those endurance sports amazes me especially suffering from Asthma
Unless of course the Asthma drug assists in some way 8)

i agree with Sea Raider, the amount of top sports folk needing to take medication for heart conditions, asthma and others, it's quite staggering. I'd thought only really healthy folk would stand a chance of becoming an elite athlete, but no, these people are a lesson for us all in how to over come such crippling illnesses.
Some have to take so many legally prescribed drugs, I'm surprised they don't qualify for the Paralympics!
I take my hat off to them for overcoming such adversity and achieving such greatness, perhaps something other paralympians who have lost limbs or are blind etc could learn from their dedication
